Friday is a half day. |
I could have sworn Friday was a full day but maybe that was changed later on. It's a half day. |
Half day for Friday too. Kids definitely got shortchanged their 180 this year. McPS needs to do a better job building more snow days into the calendar instead of acting like this was an entirely unforeseen event every year |
Unfortunately, next year's calendar will do an even worse job of building in snow days. |
This is absolutely ridiculous. Parents don't know if school is in session for a 1/2 day or a full day. And each school is providing their own information if students should attend or not. |
The state needs to switch to a minimum number of hours instead of days to avoid school systems pulling this crap.
And seconded that they need to build in more snow days. This area can't handle snowfall (a rant for another time), and they need to plan around that. What's the worst that happens with extra days? Kids get too much education? |
Parents know, trolls don't. |
Lazy AF parents don't know |
We are in a private in moco and do hours. The requirement is dufferent for private schools, no idea why. We only had 2 snow days built in but didn’t have to extend because we met the hourly requirement. |
I grew up in New York, and in my district, we had 5 snow days built in from the start of the year. The calendar had asterisks marking them saying that the ones in June, if not used due to inclement weather, would result in the year ending early. It was obvious by April whether they would be used or not, and no one complained much if kids were let out early. |
That too |
Agree. It’s on the MCPS calendar, my kid’s school’s website, in the weekly email from the school, in a reminder text and email from the school, AND my kid is talking about it. How on earth could you not know? Unless you are a troll. |
Half day. My kid's last day is tomorrow. After that, bye!

Curriculum is split into lesson plans that effectively go by day. What you're describing doesn't work in practice. |
