Get new housekeeper or reset expectations?

Anonymous
I’ve had these housecleaners for about a year. As time has gone on their attention to detail has waned, but is it their fault or mine? (Example: not cleaning under the sofa cushions.) Do I review expectations or just find a new housecleaner? I’d prefer a housecleaner that’s consistent and doesn’t need a conversation to understand how to do their job.

There are so many threads on this. They always slack after a time. We keep ours because she's honest. I don't like to think about a new person who steals or something.

What you can do is hire another company to come do a deep clean. Your housecleaners will notice and that should light a fire under them. Do this twice a year.

Good idea.
I sometimes take a weekend to deep clean and I hope my housekeeper notices but I think not. :-|

Get a new house keeper.

DIY.
House keepers are usually just for invalids/old frail people, and are usually just for doing the bare minimum.

Deep cleaning? Fuhgetaboudddit!

Huh? Just talk to them. They’re not martians. Also, neither are you. Stop using using the possibility of awkardness to avoid an honest human encounter.

Why are you and your family so filthy that sofa cushions must be cleaned every week. Once a month, ok, but every week, you are slobs.

I've found changing services every couple of years to work best. The only people I know comfortable enough to complain to and boss around immigrant women who barely speak English are folks who come from developing countries where they are used to dealing with a lot of household help (and DGAF about being "nice").

Changing housekeepers frequently/using services and not developing relationships is so new money.

My housekeeper is a close family friend at this point and her BIL is our yard guy. Grew up with a similar situation.

I find that telling them what you want done before they start cleaning comes across better--less critical. So if I want careful attention to a particular area, I mention that right as they get started.

Hiring a new housekeeper will definitely solve your problem.

Before issuing them their walking papers - I would speak honestly w/your current house cleaners & address your concerns.
Give them time to rectify the issue first.

If they seemingly revert back to their old ways > then I would find a new cleaning 🧹 🪣🧽🧼 crew……
Perhaps ask a close friend, relative or even a neighbor for a referral.

I was at my friends place when the cleaning lady was leaving and my friend was barking at her in Polish about the baseboards not being done. The lady gave it right back to her. I said "don't you feel awkward about that?" and she said "why should I? She's friends with my mom and I've known her forever." Whole different dynamic.
