Following DC's campus visit, DC received emails inviting DC for an Admission Interview. Has anyone heard of that? This Admission Interview occurs over the summer, before applicants even submit their application. I have never heard of this before. Any insight on how to prepare for it? Thanks. |
This is not at all unusual but yet is a good opportunity. I would encourage your DC to interview wherever possible with schools they like. Yes before applying. There is a significant difference btw between a post application interview with an alumnus (unless you blow that it usually does not count for much) vs a pre application interview with an admissions officer - those are very impactful. |
Yes, do it. I know WashU and Wake Forest do it.
List the school, and people can give you tips. |
PP here - as to how to prepare - your DC should be themselves (but dressed well). They should be able to comfortably talk about their interests, why they are excited to contribute to this particular campus’ life |
Haven't visited WashU. We got Haverford and Rochester. |
Great schools. They should prepare as for any professional interview. It’s ultimately great practice for life as well |
Looks like it counts as DI. I'd do it. https://thecollegecurators.com/50-colleges-offering-admissions-interviews-before-you-apply/ |
DC interviewed at a school we toured over spring break. Turned out that wasn’t the school for them but it was a great opportunity to go through the interview process.
I wouldn’t turn down any opportunity to interview early. |
Business professional or business casual? |
High school cleaned-up and tidy |
Wife beater and speedo. |
Pants and a golf shirt. |
Rice did this a few years ago. I think kids could sign up on their website. It was with a student who worked in admissions. Fantastic opportunity. My kid added things to “Why Rice” essay that the interviewer had mentioned. Got in with a nice merit scholarship. |
Interviews are a great opportunity for schools that put weight on demonstrated interest (I’m assuming this one does if they offer it). Doing the interview over the summer is helpful because the fall of senior year is a packed schedule with looming deadlines. I’d prioritize it if it’s a school your kid might ED to. |
Why do you think these pre-application interviews are very impactful, other than demonstrated interest? Guess I don't quite understand this. |
