| How to qualify for their merit scholarship? What is their criteria? I know they are very generous, and DC likes the school a lot. |

Apply EA. Preferably for undersubscribed major. Strong LOR. Strong stats/profile are a given. Worked for my kid. |
Thank you. Apply EA. will EA Preferably for undersubscribed major. Strong LOR. Checked Strong stats/profile are a given. How strong it has to be? Full or half scholarship? |
Pretty much the same for mine. 3.9/4.6 1560 12APs Got good merit offers from CWRU and Rochester |
|
Maybe this is obvious...but all recruited athletes are given a "merit" scholarship.
Mine was offered like $35k per year I think? Good stats and grades (wasn't going to be STEM), so passed the pre-read fairly easily. |
OP. Yes DC likes Rochester too. Will RD. Were your DC's merit offers both full scholarship? |
|
Pretty close, one was 45ish and the other a bit more. She was also NSMF which might have added a bit. |
Thanks, that's great. How important is the test score as a factor? |

I'm a Pittsburgher, and my dad worked at CWRU after I was out of the house. Also my grandpa was a scientifically noteworthy CWRU engineering alum.
My advice is to do a careful job of planning your visit so that your DC knows if the location is right for them. The major negatives are: -Rust Belt location and urban blight in the area -Weather -A bit nerdy by nerd standards -Many students in the most popular majors (concentrated pattern of studies vs. very wide range of majors with lots of students) From what I read on here, some DCUM kids have an immediate one way or other based on the tour. To sell a place like Cleveland, you have to scratch the surface a little bit. Maybe do some fun touring first, maybe just drive in from one direction vs. another. Being enthusiastic about Cleveland will come through in the app. I think that would help. |
If your profile is such that you are likely to get a T20 admit, you are showered with merit. They tend to give out some merit to almost all - it is not really merit, almost like Macy/JC Penny style discounting for non-international students. DC got $48k per year for 4 years. But also got merit from a T20 private and one admit to HYPSM. |
| I have a NMF who was offered $42.5k in merit. |
HS class of 23. Opened all emails and campus tour prior to applying. Applied EA and then deferred to RD when he was accepted with $30k merit. Not sure how deferred AND offered merit?? FCPS-3.98/4.5, 1560. CS major. Decided on OOS public. Good luck! |
| DP. DC’s score is 1460. For merit, would that be good enough? Or retake? |
According to their partially completed CDS for 24-25, 1460 SAT was 25th percentile. https://case.edu/ir/common-data-set-0 |
