There would have been if we voted for either of those ladies.

Ignore the PP who needlessly inserted politics, and nothing else, for your simple request for help.

I would suggest you contact your local Agency on Aging. Or you can contact your local United Way and ask them for organizations which help seniors. Perhaps Habitat for Humanity may be able to help.

There are age in place programs-services that will help you manage things from aides to safety proofing, but they are exorbitantly expensive. I know of no grants, but didn't look closely because she could afford to make changes.

Also, you will want to figure out the limits on your home. My mother has done everything possible at a large expense, but as her needs grow her house really is not safe and she is stuck on the main floor floor with hospital bed and no shower or bathtub after a surgery because she cannot stand the feel of a stair lift.

Also, one thing that was said to her since she worries about money (though she has plenty for care) is that she is lowering the value of her home. If she ever agrees to go to a residential, either all of it will need to be redone or the house will need to sell as is at a lower price because it is only desirable for someone with a disability and not even someone with significant disabilities. The appeal of where they live is school district, but the school district isn't great for special needs and it's not a desirable area for a senior to age in place.

My experience is that nothing will help you offset these cost. They are the costs of aging.

Still contact your local Agency on Aging. They may have other programs and things that holistically will offer you some support.

Does your mom have any savings to cover these costs?

Instead of doing $$$ updates, ask an OT for tips. For example, instead of redoing bath to make a zero ledge shower, we just got a carousel bath bench that rotates and slides, with removable grab bar. Much much cheaper. Folding portable ramps also cheaper.

Not needless. We need to know which of our choices are making life harder for ourselves or each other so that we can make different choices. It is quite practical and simple: Vote in someone who is going to help you live better when you are older.

My mom has had a cane since age 55 due to Parkinson’s. Now at 72 she is basically confined to a chair or bed.

Normal costs of aging.

My brother is renovating an entire house. A ramp is not much.

OP - I don't have advice about grants, but I do have reassurance about selling a house with modification. My parents had their bathroom redone from a tub to a walk-in shower with a foldable bench, and had a stair chair installed. To my great surprise, the realtor knew a charitable organization who came in and removed the stair chair, and the eventual buyers of the house (young couple with elementary-aged child) liked the bathroom. The house sold for way over asking. Hoping all works out for you.
