Trying this board for more opinions- slow betas

Anonymous
First beta at 13dpo was 77
Second at 15dpo was 235
Third at 18dpo was 466
Fourth at 20dpo was 992
Fifth at 25dpo was 1672

Had an u/s at 26dpo (yesterday, 5w4d) and it showed a sac, right on target for how many weeks I am.
Dr said to wait and see and get an u/s at 7 weeks

I am REALLY worried about the last beta taking 160 hours to double. Is there hope that this will turn out ok?

I don't know how I will handle a 3rd mc in a row. I wish I had not got any betas at all, or stopped at 992.

How far apart are your tests? If only 2 days apart, you're fine. What matters most is a rapid rate of increase; a decrease would be worrisome. I've had 3 MC so

understand your anxiety. But these numbers look fine compared to everything else I've seen. hang in there! Keep us posted on your progress!

As I recall, there is a website called betabase that allows you to compare your numbers with the range of normal numbers. Also, I believe that once you are in the stage when embyros can be viewed with US, the beta numbers no longer rise as rapidly.

OP I know how you feel, especially when you say you wish you didn't know your beta numbers. I think knowing my betas which were similar to yours, though I don't remember them exactly, made my anxiety so much worse. We saw a heartbeat at the second u/s and the pregnancy is still progressing. I'm 9 weeks as of tomorrow, but I still am very anxious about it. I hope you get good news.

Op-
My problem is with the last two: 5 days to go from 992 to 1672
All the others are perfect.

I have. I want actual stories. I am a mess

I'm so sorry. I'm not sure my opinion is really worth anything, here, but to *ME* it seems like it might be normal (I know... which means it may not). I really, really have the impression that most people slow down doubling, and my sense from betabase and others is that doubling times slow down. Now, it does seem like yours slowed down when the absolute numbers are relatively low, but the DPO are not that low. So maybe you are just a person who doesnt get super high HCG in general when tehy are pregnant?

I am so sorry and I know you already know this, but it seems like the only real way to know what is going on is to wait for the next test. I know you said your next US isnt for at least another week; maybe you can explain to your doctor how understandably anxious you are and ask for more beta tests along the way? or if you can do earlier ultrasounds? (I think you can sometimes see a heartbeat as early as 6 weeks). given your history it does seems like a doctor would want to ease your fears or help you, and i think it's perfectly legit to ask.

really will be rooting for you.

I totally understand! Have you tried the Expecting Moms board? That's where the success stories hang out.

Good luck!

The doubling rate slows as the numbers get higher. If your u/s was on track, I would go with that. At the 7 wk u/s, you should see a heartbeat so that will be a better indicator of how things are going.

PP again-- and, you may already know this, but I DO think that you could reliably see a heatbeat BEFORE 7 weeks (which would give you a huge boost in chances of a viable pregnancy, and let you know you are on track)-- I believe likely at 6.5 weeks and maybe even by 6 weeks. My RE's office told me they normally recommend an US at 6.5/7 weeks since otherwise women may "unnecessarily freak out" if they dont see a heart beat at 6 weeks even though the pregnancy may be completely normal... but in your case, you (again understandably) ARE freaking out and it seems like if you wanted you could push that rationale for not waiting until 7 weeks. Given what you are going through, making you wait a moment more than you need to, at least from my perpsective, seems cruel.

21:09 again, also meant to add you may not get a lot of success stories because most doctors don't run 5 betas. Usually it's 2 or 3 and if those are doubling appropriately, which yours were, you wait for an ultrasound at 6-7 weeks (or more like 8 wks if you're with an OB, not an RE). I don't know why your doctor ordered so many - seems like an unnecessary source of stress, and once you get close to 2000, u/s is much more useful than betas.

Thanks all for your posts. Last time I saw a hb close to 7 weeks but embryo was measurin a couple days small, and 4 days later no more hb. So this time I wanted to wait as close as possible to 7w so as to not get hopes up.
I am going on a trip this week so can't do another u/s until oct 4th. At least I will be distracted.

OP, I feel for you, I've been there. I had slow rising betas, followed by no heartbeat at what I thought was 7 weeks and I actually showed up at the dr. office to have a d&c since it would have been my 3rd m/c and I couldn't go through passing the sac on my own again. They did bloodwork that day, beta still rising (not doubling) and found a normal heartbeat. You just never can know at this early stage. I hope it all goes well for you.
