National Portrait Gallery

Anonymous
The website for the National Portrait Gallery lists the director as Kim Sajet, the director for the past 12 years, as does wikipedia.

On Friday, the president posted on Truth Social that he was firing her. However, the president has no authority to fire the director of the Portrait Gallery. I have looked but have seen no official confirmation or response or rejection of the firing.

Who is the current director of the Portrait Gallery right now?

Ms Sajet is the poster child for what is wrong with government funding of Smithsonian. wealthy elite living on taxpayer funding? Should a mom with 2 kids be funding her playtime at the Smithsonian?

who can afford these types of degrees, an independently wealthy young adult. not me or anyone I know.

She has earned a doctorate in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in art history from Bryn Mawr College, a master’s degree in business administration from Melbourne University Business School in Australia, a bachelor’s degree in art history from Melbourne University, and a graduate diploma in Museum studies from Deakin University in Australia. She has completed arts leadership training at the Harvard Business School, the Getty Institute and National Arts Strategies.

Replace her with a US citizen from a state school. get some diversity in there.

Have you noticed most of the people this administration is firing (or trying to fire) are women and/or people of color?

Clearly the federal government should not be funding the Portrait Gallery. She is able to raise money. let the rich support this.

You just listed her degrees. She is perfectly educated and professionally qualified for this job. Are you saying only Americans should be working in the US or for the government. Do you know we have foreign born US senators and House members? Do you know Elon is not an American born citizen? Do you not want Americans to be able to work in other countries?

It is part of the Smithsonian and is where the official presidential portraits are hung.

I thought diversity was the root of all of our problems.

What could possibly go wrong with letting the rich elite decide what is art and where to put it.

Serious question: do you honestly think somone without a background in Museums and in art history is better qualified than Ms Sajet simply because of her education? The fact that she is a mother makes her work playtime? You can't be serious.

I feel the same way about billionaires making decisions about our economy and government. Why don’t you get started with the important stuff first and we can worry about the gallery much later.

the president has no authority to fire the director of the Portrait Gallery.

Oh, but he does have the authority. According to the Trump Principle, government policies, decisions, and officials all serve to realize Trump’s will. His love for the American Volk, working ceaselessly for the good of Americans, permits this exception to the rule of law.

If the president tweeted that he is firing me, an ordinary private citizen, I would ignore it and carry on. The Library of Congress just did the same thing.

Especially given his tweets about Biden being a robot. It seems like Trump is not in touch with reality and what is within his purview.
