Today I watched Fantastia with my kids. When we got to the last section (the demons on the mountain one), I mentioned that it used to scare the crap out of me when I was their age and I could never watch it all the way through.
They laughed and said it was boring and stupid. That they saw scarier ads on YouTube. Not sure how I feel about that. I know Gen Z gets criticized for being “snowflakes”, I have a feeling Gen Alpha will be desensitized to pretty much everything. |
Don’t you remember the columbine massacre ? Those two shooters loved shoot em up video games and reenacted a video together at school where they dressed in trench coats and pretended to shoot some jocks. A certain subset of kids have been desensitised to violent media for decades. Heck Ted Bundy blamed porn for being a serial killer in the 70s |
You nees to lock down youtube. Youtube kids only or just take a break from it altogether |
Nobody says Gen Z are snowflakes because of their response to scary movies.
|
Desensitized is not tough.
They can’t make phone calls 🤣 |
My husband says that some channels can get around the content filters. He works in tech, so I trust him. We ended up uninstalling YouTube Kids. |
My kids get scared at scary parts of Disney films. They don’t watch YouTube. Do you realize how much graphic and violent content kids can access there even with restrictions and even on YouTube kids? |
Keep your kids off youtube by any means necessary. My kid saw a true-crime video on a playdate describing a murder and he was in tears that night in bed. Please don't sacrifice childhood innocence. |
Please don't start with video games cause violence; that's been debunked.
How old are your kids OP? I think we watched things way too young because our siblings were watching something and it was on Saturday night at 8PM and the whole family watched it in the 70s/80s and there were no internet sites to tell parents that hey little suzie is too young for this! I think that's probably why things were scarier to us. |
Op it’s not gen alpha, it’s your unsupervised kids. Do better. |
Same here. Even my teen doesn’t watch YouTube (or care about it), and certainly not my ES age child. |
I’ve only heard that millennials are pussies, not gen Z. |
I think it’s an age thing. My 9 year old and his friends love the “kid horror” stuff like Five Nights at Freddy’s and SCP games on Roblox. It’s not realistic at all and neither is Fantasia or stuff on YouTube ads. But we were watching the Osama Bin Laden documentary on Netflix the other day and my kid was totally freaked out at the footage of 9/11. |
Please get your kids off of YouTube. It’s awful. |
The fact that you give your kids unsupervised access to YouTube is actually scary. |
