Do people think Dunn loring es will happen?

Seems like an efficient way to reallocate 86 million when we have this big budget gap. They’re supposed to start building this year…

The latest CIP calls for a lot of money to be spent on Dunn Loring this upcoming school year.

If they spend the money this coming year, they’ll be in too deep to reverse course. If they don’t, it will underscore there’s no compelling need for the school, and the expenditure at the site becomes increasingly difficult to justify.

They are in turmoil now with the boundary study having turned out to be such a fiasco. The rumor is their current Facilities head is leaving soon, so not clear who would oversee such a big project. The guy they usually bring in as an interim head of facilities is more focused on spreading out the money to keep the existing buildings functional.

I know this board thinks the project is a complete waste, but with plans to backfill Shrevewood’s deficit (which is mostly due to kids transferring to Lemon Road, not fewer students) with over 100 Timber Lane kids and Freedom Hill teetering at 45% FARM rates, the pyramid may be losing a lot of available capacity to Title I status. Dunn Loring may actually be needed, although the 900 seats is probably excessive.

Are they proposing to leave a several ES in the Falls Church pyramid that are already Title I under capacity and then push the poverty further north to create more Title I schools to justify Frisch’s Folly? They wouldn’t be moving Timber Lane kids to Shrevewood if they weren’t pushing more kids further south into Timber Lane.

Honestly, it seems contrived to justify a Dunn Loring school that isn’t needed. Still plenty of capacity projected at Vienna, Cunningham Park, and Freedom Hill.

I don’t think that’s the consultants intention. They have tunnel vision and their primary objective was to get Graham Road in its attendance area and drop the Pine Springs attendance island. They’re looking at everything from an existing capacity lens, so pushing Shrevewood to 102% without considering the student transfers or the shift in demographics would go unnoticed.

The potential consequences that would justify Dunn Loring’s existence seem purely incidental.

Money could have been better spent at Kilmer.

They should have scrapped this as soon as Shrevewood lost half its students to Lemon Road. Karl Frisch is such a jerk. NOBODY asked for this school. Shrevewood parents asked for an evaluation for redistricting. FCPS was going to do that, and then Covid hit and it was paused. Karl F'ing Frisch slid in there and torpedoed the whole thing by saying "Actually, I have a new school for you" and Shrevewood parents were LIVID. We were ready for rezoning the following fall which is what they promised us, we did not ask for a new school.

Shrevewood will probably go up to about 45% FARMS if the 119 kids from Timber Lane are moved. It won't pass the current Title I threshold in FCPS (57% FARMS).

And then it will lose FARMS kids if Dunn Loring opens and the area outside the Beltway moves over to Stenwood.

Dunn Loring is still going to be a waste of money.

Exactly this! KF is a horrendous person.

Excellent name. I would love it if they actually changed the name to this. Just think what that $86 million could have funded within FCPS...

The gross thing is his acting like he’s doing something for Shrevewood when they didn’t want this and it’s really just to save a dog park for Frisch’s childless friends.

The gross thing is the homophobic dog whistle that is brought up every time in these threads. Just say that you think that Dunn Loring is a bad idea and the money should be spent elsewhere.

What an odd comment. There are straight people without children who, like Karl, prioritize dog parks over schools.

Is this some weird tick where you expect everyone to defend Karl Frisch’s incompetence and warped priorities because there are homophobes out there? It’s a transparent strategy that people are tired of.
