| I am interested in these small arts-based LACs with tiny endowments, particularly Bennington. While it has graduated amazing alum, especially for a school its size, it really struggles with a tiny endowment and low national recognition. Why do you think students still find themselves at Bennington and what draws them there in a time where higher ed is at its most unstable? |
| Because it’s a great arts college and they hire quality faculty. It’s really not much more complex than that. |
| What amazing alumni? |
Brett Easton Ellis, Donna Tartt |
I have heard the name Donna Tartt |
Tyrion Lannister (the actor) Diane Chambers from Cheers (the fictional character) |
Judith Butler (before transferring to Yale), Ann Goldstein, Liz German, Peter Dinklage, Joel Garland, Kiran Desai, Jonathan Lethem (who dropped out), Mary Ruefle, Safiya Sinclair, Anne Waldman, Andrea Dworkin, and, most fun, Betty Ford. |
Yes, and Michael Pollan, Jonathan Lethem, Sally Mann, Peter Dinklage, Tim Daly, Carol Channing, Helen Freaking Frankenthaler! The names go on and on, and they're impressive. |
Isn't that Jamie Tartt? Heck of a soccer player but kind of a jerk at times. |
Donna Tartt is extremely popular with the young millennials/older gen-z |
As is Jamie Tartt. Probably more popular. I'm guessing you have no idea what I am referring to. GIYF. |
Or maybe I'm not bringing up someone who has nothing to do with this thread... |
What in the h*ll is a Bennington? Talk about obscure. |
| Poet/author/playwright/artist Nina Kossman. |
Think Hampshire without yurts. |
