Heartbreaking. Sheinelle has been absent from the TODAY show since December. Her husband was privately battling brain cancer and passed. They were college sweethearts and have 3 children together.

He was her light. This is awful. They have young kids.

They seemed so genuinely happy. Love her - I hope she returns in the fall. But I wonder if she’ll move out of New York to be closer to family.

I just saw this. I've always really liked her on the show and wondered where she's been this year. So sorry to hear this terrible news.

Very sad. Watched the Today Show this morning and was surprised because they had said " she was out for family issues" but never elaborated.

Shame on everyone who is speculated that she left the today show because they didn’t give her more money when Hoda left. Meanwhile, she was battling this terrible news.

I only just realized I hadn’t seen her in a while, she’s been caring for her husband, this whole time.

+1 My dad died of this cancer last year - he was 85 but it can strike anyone at any time. Horrible.

How awesome that she was able to take five MONTHS off from work to spend with her sick husband in his last days. Normal people would be incredibly lucky to even get five weeks!

So sad. Praying for her and her kids.

Was he diagnosed in December 2024 or is that when she went on leave?

I think we all understand that there is some privilege involved in being able to not worry about how to pay the bills for months while caring for an ailing family member like this. But this does seem an odd place to air this sentiment.
