Did you grow up in a family where you talked to your mom/dad while the used the restroom?

I’ve seen this across social media over Mother’s Day posted by the moms, grown kids talking to their mothers in the bathroom, mom on the toilet, in what would be the most private moments. Sons and daughters.

I was not raised in a family like that but I see from comments that many people were.

I have a colleague who mentioned her teenage daughters do come in the bathroom and talk while she uses the bathroom. This was a few years ago and I remember that shocked me.

Coming in the bathroom seems weird to me, talking through the door doesn't although I don't remember if we did it growing up.

Not a #2, but my teen DD will come in and talk with me during a pee, and has called me in for various reasons while she’s having a pee. I’m not putting my hands on my knees and staring her down, I apply lotion or wipe down the sink.

I don’t see how this is any different than how I would act in the bathroom with friends in college.

We talk through the door all the time. Kids came in when they were little, not as teens.

No, that’s disgusting.

Not like, long conversations, but maybe talking through the door to ask a quick question. "Heading out, need anything from CVS while I'm there?"

Nope. Not through the door, nothing. Also, don't brush your teeth in front of me and don't even get me started with flossing.

I want to throw up when people are flossing on tv.

I have a bathroom where the toilet is behind a closed door, and the shower/sink are outside of that. My kids come in all the time if I"m in there so long as the main door isn't closed. They obviously cannot see me shower or actually use the bathroom. I love the informality.

Op here. I’ll add I have never used the bathroom in front of friends either - my groups were never that open with each other fwiw.

I can see how it can be endearing for mom that her son even at 20 is open to talking to her in as another PP said, the informal pop up even if mom is doing her business moments.

I don’t know that I agree. I don’t think even two grown men like to chat at the urinal. I wouldn’t be comfortable with my son doing this, or my daughter doing this with her father. But two women? Historically speaking, this isn’t weird. We give birth in front of women, what’s taking a pee?

People are nuts. My only comment through a closed bathroom door would be to leave me the f alone.

I suppose the part to that is that much of this has been happening since the children were small. I noticed a lot of comments of “so it never stops?!” The mom replied never. This was with the mom and 20yr old son one, so he’s been talking to her while she usss the restroom since he was small. I’d assume in that case both parents are used to it happening.

Well aren't you a lovely, delicate flower.

Mom, yes. Dad, not unless it was a freakin' emergency. But I grew up in a house with a mom, dad and 3 daughters. Dude was outmanned and outgunned.

Current situation basically requires bathroom sharing; we only have the one. Still, I'd prefer to be left alone, if/when possible. I've had to tell my kids "Unless something's on bleeding, on fire, or dying, wait until I'm out." Compliance is better now that they're older. The younger years were rough for privacy!
