Teachers Resigning Like Crazy?

Only admin know the true number because one vacancy on the list may be several positions. For example, a school might have a 1st and two 2nd grade openings and have one posting for Grades 1-2. So there are way more vacancies in FCPS currently than the vacancy list shows.

I threw it in google sheets and ran a countif on the number of "apply" buttons and found 530. So, minimum 530 positions, but like pp said many schools only have 1 vacancy listed for a grade range and may have multiple positions open (in prior years they'd list it multiple times). Probably significantly higher than 530 at the end of the day.

It is probably around 630.

Yep. I sat on an interview panel for a position at a highly regarded school. We interviewed every single person who applied and had credentials for the position. It was 2 people.

I can’t imagine how much the higher needs schools are struggling to recruit.

Is this a joke? I’m a teacher in FCPS and haven’t heard such a thing.

Soon they will just hire monitors to babysit the kids while a teacher teaches large numbers of classes online. There won't be enough certified teachers left to cover all of the classes.

I considered becoming a teacher... until I spent some time subbing. I am eternally grateful I subbed first instead of spending thousands of dollars and countless hours acquiring a teaching certificate. Subbing was a huge eye opener. I always had tons of respect for teachers, but I now have both admiration and frankly, sympathy for them. They are in a no-win situation and admin does NOT have their backs. It is a thankless task.

NP. This is what I've heard from my friend at a high school. They're pretty much fully staffed. What they are lacking is subs.

Yep. Schools are getting all staffed.
