Ocean city - Amusement parks

Anonymous
Do we need more than a day for the Splash mountain, race track and the rides?

Are they all nearby? I see a pass for 2 combination and wondering if it's worthwhile to take a combo pass or not.

If we want to spend one day at the amusement park and one day at the beach, where to stay? Looking for cheap accommodations. Currently boardwalk hotel prices are around $300 and I am looking at under $200. Willing to drive 30 min, so staying a bit further away is fine for us.

Is Rehoboth Beach better than Ocean City beach?

We usually stay closer up to Fenwick because the beaches aren’t as crowded and we like some of the restaurants up there but it takes a good 30 minutes to get down to the boardwalk/where the amusement park section is. So don’t underestimate how long it’s going to take in traffic in the busy summer months. I would probably double the time it tells you now it would take to get from one place to another.

Rehoboth and Ocean City are very very different. Ocean City is busier, everything‘s along the main drag, much larger than Rehobeth. But Rehobeth has more character, a better walk ability in a way, really great restaurants, shops and spas. Ocean City is more like that traditional Beach town that attracts more of a lower class crowd than Rehobeth. Both are fun for different reasons. Rehobeth has fun land if your kids are young even my team still like to go there but only takes you about half a day.

First, it's Rehoboth (not OP, but first response).

Ocean City and Rehoboth are very different, as 14:23 describes.

Ocean City is a large resort town - I'm not sure what you mean by splash mountain, racetrack, and rides. There are rides on the boardwalk (south end of Ocean city, by the inlet) - Trimpers (little kid rides + some thrill rides). Depending on your kids and your interests you can spend an afternoon/evening there.

We would usually go in the afternoon- they have a deal where you can get an unlimited ride wristband. This was great for kids. Now that my kids are older teenagers, I don't know if we'd do a wristband.

Jolly Rogers has rides on a boardwalk pier, very close to trimpers. There are more adult/thrill rides there, but not a lot. Like 2 hours max? What people usually do is walk the boardwlak, eat and look, ride rides, go eat, play games, people watch, walk up and down. There are also game arcardes - we like Marty's because my mom worked there when she was a teenager in the 1960s and some of the original owners are there sometimes and they still ahve some old fashioned games.

The ocean city boardwalk is 3 miles long, lined with shops, amusements, and restaurants of all types. The entirely of Ocean City is about 10 miles long.

Then there are other places all up and down ocean highway, the highay that runs the length of ocean city. go-carts, a larger Jolly Rogers, water parks, climbling parks, mini golf - tons of choices. The bigger Jolly Rogers is maybe worth an afternoon/evening.

As for beaches themselves, Ocean City has relatively wide beaches, certainly on the south side. It can take 30 min plus to drive from the north end of ocean city/fenwick to the south end. Depending on where you stay, the beach in front of your locaiton may be more or less crowded.

Reohoboth is one small-ish town. There is a boardwalk, with amusements. Funland is the ride/arcade place on the boardwalk. The rides are a mx is little kid to thrill, but it's simply not very large. There are arcades, shops, and amusements, but the boardwalk is 1 mile long. There are nicer shops and restaurants along Rehoboth Ave which leds you to the beach /boardwalk. There are go carts and a water park further back from the beach.

Rehoboth is more upscale - better sit down restaurants for sure. But very different vibes.

For reasons that are none of your business I use a dictation tool to compose my messages and that is how it popped up. So the next time you want to make a pedantic one letter correction to someone’s post, think a little bit about whether it has any value to your post or if you’re just trying to be a know it all jerk.

Girl, why are you correcting someone else when you can’t even spell and you also misspelled it.

+100. This poster summarized the two beaches very well.

If you want to save and don’t mind driving you could look at staying in Berlin or maybe airbnb in Ocean Pines. They are about 15 mins (w/o traffic, bit still should be under 30 with traffic) inland from the OC beach.

Good description, but it’s Coastal Highway not Ocean Highway.

I would not stay in Berlin or Ocean Pines during peak beach season. Way too much traffic getting into OC.

Ugh both are awful.

I assume you are talking about the waterpark and go-karts at Jolly Roger? If so, the rides aren't great. I wouldn't bother with those. Even the ones on the Boardwalk are ok but not great. Think local carnival vs. Hersheypark-quality. Trimper's at the end of the Boardwalk has better rides (but again, not amazing).

The waterpark is great and you could spend several hours there. Go-kart track there is nice too. I think you could do both in one day (just bring a change of dry clothes). The water park also has a deal where you go for the second half of the day for half-price (I think after 2pm). So you could go to the beach in the morning and then to the waterpark in the afternoon. Make sure to check Groupon and Certifikid before you buy a pass--they often have deals around this time.

In terms of where to stay, I would look in West Ocean City but traffic can be bad getting into Ocean City so keep that in mind. Jolly Roger does have free parking. Rehoboth is definitely nicer than OC but unless you are staying in downtown Rehoboth, parking there is a nightmare during the summer.

On the topic of OC… is the life saving museum interesting?

For about an hour, sure. But it's not very big. I've been going to OC my entire life so the nostalgia is cool.

We tend to do an afternoon at Splash Mountain and the go kart track. I have never done the amusement part of Jolly Roger but could imagine you’d only need a full day to do all three. They are essentially in the same parking lot.

As for where to stay. We stay in Bethany and it does take a good 45 minutes to get down to Jolly Roger. North Ocean City or Fenwick would probably be the best bet. Rehoboth is lovely, but pricier and Funland, while nostalgic, is really only good for younger kids.
