Can't do HRT (cancer) - what works for joint and muscle pain?

Anonymous
The title says it all. I can't do HRT. I'm 52. What, if anything, works for joint and muscle pain? I ache all the time. Chemo, related neuropathy, and radiation have made it worse. Treatments for cancer have been successful, so I'm otherwise healthy. I just ache. It affects my sleep. I've tried acupuncture, magnesium, and prescribed drugs. Nothing works well. Open to any suggestions.

Edibles. I have neuropathy and they’ve been a miracle pain reliever for me. They also make THC balms that are very helpful.

Sauna, jacuzzi, swimming, yoga, and frequent massages help with muscle and joint pain. I can’t do HRT either. I hope you find relief.

Movement. Salty baths. Acupuncture. Massage

Also an SNRI (it reduced my anxiety, pain level, night sweats.- they do have weird symptoms as a ramp on and can be very hard to come off of)

How long has it been since your treatment?

Self massage - hot oil abhayanga (google it, youtube has videos) - every day and sometimes twice a day. Eating regular warm meals. Intermittant fasting (ie eating only in an 8 hour window) Stay away from any cold food or drink. Cover up and dress in layers. Sunbathing in morning sunlight for 30 minutes.

Yoga and Pranayam. Again - youtube has a ton of videos.

Same boat and the above practice has removed the pain and stiffness.

In Ayurvedic practice - your personality, age, disease -can put you in a set of symptoms that is similar to what you are describing. You should be doing things to balance your Vata (one of the three personality types).

Gentle exercises only. Heat in your body through temperature control, clothing and eating warm foods.

Do you take statins by any chance?

Seriously, stop eating plants for a week and see how you feel. Focus on fatty meat and fish (sardines are great for lunch) and drink water with electrolytes. You don’t have to do this forever but a keto/carnivore diet is a fantastic way to quickly and dramatically decrease inflammation. Just give it a try, you will feel better!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I'm not on statins, I do get massages, and already on an SNRI (prescribed for the neuropathy, where it hasn't been helpful, but has definitely helped with anxiety). Treatment is ongoing. I need to do more swimming and yoga. And I'll give some of the other suggestions a try. Really appreciate it.

Low carb meals.

As much natural whole plant based foods (as well as good organic proteins like eggs, chicken, fish) as you can cook from scratch. Avoid ultra processed food.

No sugar or sugar additive foods. Read labels. Don't eat known allergens.

Another thing - 4 times a day drink the following. Your pain will disappear in 3 days.

Warm 2 ounce of organic whole milk, add 1/4 tsp of natural turmeric (buy from Indian grocery stores because they have fresh stock) and a dash of ground black pepper - drink it.

Remember - do not exceed more than 1 tsp of turmeric in a day. And do not drink it cold or in smoothies or tablet form. Turmeric needs to be drunk in organic whole milk and with ground black pepper. Or use in your cooking with a bit of ghee.

I think some of it is time also. It takes a long time for the medicines to come out of your body. I hope that you can find some relief. I’ll add aloe vera juice - it’s super hydrating for your gut which is always helpful. And castor oil packs with heat over the painful areas (rotate through each night).

How is your heat tolerance? It might be nice to go out to the Korean spa to see how that feels. It really wrings my muscles and tension out.
