My 3rd grader’s first SOL. She is in full time AAP this year.
What scores are you seeing on the 3rd Reading SOL? My daughter was a 500, but that doesn’t seem too high since just barely made “advanced”. She is happy and not stressed since we don’t put much emphasis on tests with her. Other AAP 3rd parents- what are your kids scoring on the reading? I am curious if I should be worried or this is a good score... New to this “infamous SOL”! |
See other thread on this. You are repeating. |
My 4th grader dropped almost 100 points from their 3rd grade reading SOL. Pass advanced both years but wildly diff scores. I was also wondering if it was harder this year or if last year was a fluke. |
Thanks. What is other thread named? |
My kid is in 8th - AAP student and going to TJ next year, and his reading SOL score specifically has fluctuated wildly so I don't put too much stock in it.
3rd: Cancelled/COVID 4th: 472 (virtual) 5th: 579 6th: 531 7th: 453 8th: 514 7th was clearly an outlier so I'm glad he's back to Pass Advanced this year. His math scores have been a lot more consistent, above 550 every year except the virtual year. I think it just depends on how much he cares any given year since the SOLs don't really matter. |
Pass advanced is pass advanced. Don't overthink it. They're doing well. |
My oldest has fluctuated like PP. She's always been AAP is now in 8th, and her score varied from 480-570 (lowest score was coming back after covid). Honestly, LA is not her thing and she doesn't really care what she gets on the SOL (in any subject).
Honestly it just doesn't matter even a little, so I would not give it another thought |
Don’t even worry about it. As long as they pass, they have shown ‘proficiency.’ Done and done. |
This is also true for my 7th grader. She reads all the time but the kind of reading comprehension they want in language arts (theme, describing characterization, that sort of thing) is so not her thing. I was an English major so that kind of baffles me. |
Where can you see the SOL scores? |
There are already two threads on this and the general consensus is that the tests were harder or the cutoffs were higher. Also the scores have not been adjusted to reflect the entire state yet, so your child's scores could change.
