Volvo 2025.5 XC90 - no wireless Apple CarPlay

Does anyone have this new model? Is it a dealbreaker? I hate cords but love my Apple Podcasts.

Does the 2025.5 Volvo XC90 have wireless Apple CarPlay?
Yes, the new XC90 comes standard with a new, larger 11.2-inch touchscreen display and features higher resolution. It runs a new generation user interface, similar to that in the all-new EX90 and EX30 models. To further streamline your connected drive, Apple CarPlay is also standard

But it's not wireless, wired only. I was looking at cars last fall and I considered the Volvo, but this was a deal breaker for me.

Same. It’s an Android based system. So no Apple Maps or Podcasts wirelessly. You have to connect to a wire in your center console to get Apple CarPlay.

This should be illegal. What is wrong with these idiot car designers.

Is this an AI response? If so, please stop posting AI answers. If you don't have your own response, skip the thread. Whether AI-generated or not, this answer is wrong. The Volvo has wired, not wireless CarPlay.

OP, we have a Polestar which is in the same situation. For playing music, we can connect our phones by Bluetooth and are able to use the car's controls to play the music on our phones. This seems pretty close to CarPlay and I assume the same will be true for podcasts. Depending on how much you will miss the other apps from your phone, that may be enough for you.

You can also get an adapter to enable wireless CarPlay, though at least on the Polestar, those don't work perfectly.

Wireless CarPlay should not be a dealbreaker if you like everything else on this car. You can buy an adapter. They are small USB sticks you connect on your USB port. They are not expensive. You can get it for $50.

One of our cars has (aftermarket) wired CarPlay, the other one has OEM wireless CarPlay. Wireless is convenient for shorter trips, where the car just connects while my phone is in my pocket; it's not like it's a HORRIBLE pain to plug it into the wire, though, and as a few PPs noted, you can easily get cheap wireless adapters. Wouldn't make this a dealbreaker for a car if you like everything else about it.

I bought a dongle which makes my CarPlay wireless. It's been seamless.

Could you please link what you bought? Thank you!

This is what I bought but there are lots of them out there. https://www.amazon.com/vnilrgle-Wireless-Converts-Compatible-Bluetooth/dp/B0DD44VP37/ref=sr_1_11?crid=26NPQELOJRPK6&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eHorF6h4DeKSJCb6X-_Vil4naU4IuKFVexzIjI7cO_jzDmTNsm8xdfBksLCnGBqg3rG9hBpGlgldE7h8gfaBJPxNNfu4MXUWjih5UPjmhUjUmgTn0TWjS2n84ba9WZ2e55HUnguOWSIA-u9_cjnfnfzY6CawxsbmU78yzQpi7uhfGGTb9gMfzrN8nu4d1XJojUesM32hCXkklt48JiTh3hidrgurdkSDj3YEEWpa5Ag.MqhsCKce3moTBP9Y_2hhAYLjqy3UEA1khplgzivnKP8&dib_tag=se&keywords=wireless%2Bairplay%2Badapter%2Bfor%2Bcar&qid=1747410313&sprefix=wireless%2Bairplay%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-11&th=1

And my car is a Volvo as well but it's a 2023 mild hybrid

Can you leave it plugged in the USB port in center console?

Double check with the dealer but I think 2025.5 XC90 will get an update enabling wireless carplay

I have the older (2025) Volvo; I was annoyed about the wired CarPlay, but this far I haven’t missed it. I use the car’s interface for google maps and Spotify; my calls come through the speakers automatically. Maybe the only thing missing is talk to text? Not sure - I don’t use Siri, so I don’t miss it. YMMV
