| How many teams is McLean rostering for 2017G next year? We were offered silver, which I’m guessing is the bottom team? Worth the cost or should we do rec another year? |
It’s the 4th team. That’s generally not worth it and you can usually get the same from rec. |
| Thanks. I’m thinking she could make the 4th team next year too and we could save a lot of money this year. |
Good idea! |
|
Or look at other clubs for a travel team. DD was cut from MYS at U8, went and played elsewhere for a couple years, and came back to MYS and is now playing on the top team.
|
Yeah Arlington is a good option and not far from McLean. Not really any other good options near by so rec still might be your best option. |
| Not worth the money. Hire private coach for the year and try out again next year. |
| OP here - thanks all. What about Arlington ADP? Looks to be half the price of McLean and still offers / practiced a week. |
That should say 2 practices a week. |
| OP again - I’m just seeing the Arlington vs McLean thread and it looks like McLean Silver may be made up of players who didn’t even try out? Definitely not paying for that. |
You actually sound like a smart and reasonable parent. Kudos to you! My DD did not start travel soccer until u11. She gained more confidence and had a lot of fun in those early years at rec and as a result was mature and ready for the jump to travel. Everyone thinks the pressure to get your kid in as soon as they hit u8/u9 because they think their child will be left behind and miss out. That's completely false! Make sure your child is having fun and loves the game first then let them jump to the next level when they are ready. Don't take the scraps of a 4th team simply because of FOMO. My DD within a year was on the 1st team of her club and had a joy for the game that many of the other kids lacked... it was actually sad to see the worn out looks on many of these kids faces. Let your kid enjoy rec, there is plenty of time for her to develop and join travel at a later date. |
Op here - thanks! This is great to hear and congrats to your DD! Did she just do rec before travel soccer? I too have been told it's impossible to make a top team if you don't start at U8/U9 and that's just not our priority anyway. She loves soccer, but would be happy doing Rec (or maybe ADP?) another year. I'd rather not burn her out. |
Yes she did rec for many years. Even did a toddler program through her preschool because they had popsicles.
|
Or practice with her, no need to spend money at this age, YouTube soccer drills for kids |
|
Clubs care about the development of the top team. Not that much about the second team.
Below that, thank you for your money. Be flexible because practices and game fields are prioritized for the higher teams. You know, stuff rolls down hill. |
