| APS is proposing making Friday June 6th a holiday for Eid. They are voting tomorrow. If this will screw up something in your kid's end of year schedule consider emailing now. |
| Don’t you mean for next year? Eid Was already observed this year 3/31. |
| Are you suggesting they’re going to add an extra day to the end of the school year? |

No, check the weekly update, there's another one |
| Not to steal this thread b/c we know the board will vote yes b/c when have they ever said no….Mr. Hall is leaving WL “ to pursue new leadership opportunities within Arlington Public Schools.”?!? After a leave of absence for personal reasons? And leaving with only a few weeks left of school? Graduation is 6/4, he couldn’t have stayed a few more days? Strange |
| This is absurd. There are lots of planned activities towards the end of the school year. And high schoolers are preparing for finals. |

Many teachers are upset. There are several field trips scheduled for that day, including Tj's band trip to Hershey Park. It's the end of the SOL testing window. This is a huge blunder |
| Does anyone have the link to comment? This is really getting ridiculous. They need to say that they just can't close schools for religious holidays when the date is not known a year in advance. It sucks for people who celebrate Eid, but changing/adding days off at the last minute is just not workable. |

Comment form is on this page. I emailed board members individually given the tight timeframe https://www.apsva.us/arlington-school-board/ |

 Two Eids? |
| I wrote to the SB and Duran. Please beg any teachers you know to tell the SB about what this will do to all things . . . Field trips, finals prep, after school events! And what about high school sports? Teams that make it to states could very well be playing that day! |

This is for Eid al Adha I think this is a great time for APS to reconsider going back to excused absences for religious observations. |
| Why couldn't they figure out the date of a holiday in advance? This is crazy |
| Proposed Calendar Change: The School Board will also decide on a possible calendar change for this school year to make Friday, June 6, 2025, a holiday because of Eid al Adha. This change is proposed because the holiday will now start on June 6 instead of Saturday, June 7. |

Eid dates shift because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, meaning it is based on the cycles of the moon. It was supposed to be observed Saturday, but the date/sighting of the most recent new moon changed it to Friday. That being said- closing and cancelling all of these end of year activities for a small percentage of the school community is absurd. |
