Wasn't sure whether I should post here or in the exercise forum. Do HS cross country kids use Strava?
My 8th grader hopes to make the HS XC team next year (and likely will), so wondering if a Strava subscription would make a good birthday gift? He already uses the fitness features on his Apple watch. But is Strava only fun if your friends are also using it? Clearly not a runner myself, so appreciate any guidance. |
Some programs use Strava and some do not. Depends on the coach? What high school is your son going to attend? |
My XC runner uses Strava but most of their teammates don't. It all depends and it's not used socially. |
I use Garmin a lot more than Strava, I subscribe to both. I think Garmin has better training features and Strava is more like "Facebook for runners". |
Yes at our high school. Coaches ask them to. |
But free version. It’s for the coaches to track their progress, not for them to share with their friends for fun. |
Which high school? |
Yorktown. But the kids do not use it socially. At all. Definitely not something to buy a subscription for. |
OP here, thanks. Got the idea from a friend whose kid runs for MCPS, but good to know it’s not a universal. |
I'm an adult runner and noticed that competitors of my HS kid are using it. Mostly on teh 'private' mode or whatever. |
To me, this sets off so many safe sport red flags, and as a parent I would not allow it. |
+100 Also my child's high school coach is not a good coach at all. I would not want to give the coach access to my child's workouts. She demands that kids run at high intensity at all times (even long run and recovery days). It has lead to flat results and high injuries. Not going to give this coach any more information than necessary. |
