What’s appropriate for the counselor and the teachers?
Private high school. |
| A nice thank you note is all that's needed. |
|
Note and gift cards.
Whatever you feel comfortable with. I’ve seen anywhere from $50 to $500. |
| A personal, handwritten note of thanks from the child is entirely appropriate. If you have the means to add a monetary gift, that is up to you, but it shouldn't be necessary. |
| Cash and a card. As much cash as you can afford. Don’t give until last day of school. |
| At their FCPS high school, my kids gave a thank you note with a $10 gift certificate to each teacher who wrote an LOR (2 for 1 kid and 3 for the other). |
These people took 2-3 hours of their time to do something they didn’t have to do. I’m glad you think their time was worth $10. |
It's not compensation, it is a token of appreciation! |
PP here. In FCPS, it is not customary to pay teachers for LORs. We felt that we wanted to give the teachers a little something special in addition to a thank you note. We did not want to spend too much to make it "awkward." We also gave it to the teachers in Sept/Oct after they wrote their recommendations. You are welcome to have your own opinion as to what amount is appropriate, but you not accuse me of thinking that teachers' time is worth $10. |
MCPS gift limit is $20 per gift, or total of $100 per year. |
| Private HS - most gift cards are 250-500 per writer. |
| One graduated public, one private. Each counselor and teacher got a handwritten thank you note from our child + a $25 gift card |
You do not accuse me of doing exactly what I said I did! LOL |
| No. Written thank you. |
| That seems unethical. |
