Why can’t we have real state cups?

Why can’t states have competitions open to all clubs? It seems crazy that we don’t have real states. It’s either USYS teams or nothing. Why not open it up?

Blame the greed and arrogance of "elite" soccer leagues.

At least pretty much all the clubs no matter where they end up, play their best at the u-little level (7v7 and 9v9), at least in my state.

The state cup this year was both USYS and US Club teams.

Loudoun girls were not there for u11 and u12. I still don’t know why

Maybe Loundon manager/coach did not register them in time to the state cup. Our club/team also missed it at u11 but entered for u12.

The VA state cup lists an open registration.

“ANY teams from U11 to U14 Boys & Girls are welcome to register for this top-tier competition. Clubs throughtout Virginia and the District can compete this Spring.”

Usually the highest teams that compete are RL level teams, and maybe NCSL Div 1 teams can get invia the play-in games. So 2nd teams for the biggest clubs and 1st teams for the smaller clubs.

The ECNL/MLS teams do not participate as they want to be seen as higher level then those teams. That's why SYC didn't enter their "MLS" teams but snuck players in on their "MLS 2" teams.

U12B had the best teams in VA. What you are saying applies to u13+.

In MD no RL teams are allowed. USYS teams only. It's disappointing in that I think having "states" that is open to all organizations is old school fun. I hate everyone having to stay in their "brand" lanes.

Skipping state cup to support a league they’re not going to play in next year?

A lot of this stuff was set up many months ago. Also, yes the league makes you got to at least 1 event so I'm guessing they were essentially forced to go contractually.

No requirement for u12 teams to attend an ecnl event.

Not sure if it's "required", but I think it's required when you bring the 11s/12s.
