Unfollowed on Instagram and feel like I’m in middle school

Anonymous
This is so stupid but I have to ask:

I have an old mom friend. They moved out of district years ago but we remained friends on Instagram. She is a prolific Instagram poster and I enjoyed following along. I realized just now that I hadn’t seen a post from her in about a week. I went to check and it seems she has removed me from following her, but still follows me! I don’t think it happened by accident because I went to see how to remove someone and it’s pretty deliberate and would require intent. The weird thing is, she’s still friends with all of the other old mom friends from that time, even the ones who have also moved away.

I feel like I’m 13 again. Like, why me? LOL

I unfriend people often when I find their posts 1. insufferable and oblivious or 2. are actively denying the genocide in Gaza. If you're just living your life and you aren't close with this woman, who even cares?

I rarely even post anymore, just family photos when I do. I don’t post anything political or religious. All I ever do is ‘like’ things or post benign comments.

It means nothing, but it still feels so funny.

Maybe you triggered her in some way. I don't unfollow but I hide a lot of people who rub me the wrong way for any reason at all: lots of political posts (don't care what leanings, not into it), conspiracy theorists, ultra skinny ED triggers, braggarts...

It could be anything at all.
I was close friends with a lady. She was planning a move about 20 minutes away. Before the move she texted wanting to get together for breakfast. I said we'd be on vacation that week but she wasn't moving that far and I'm sure we'd see each other soon! She blocked me on Facebook and never spoke to me again. Still don't know...

I have switched from unfollowing people who bug me to muting people who bug me. I'm in a tough life situation right now and some people who are non-stop posters of their (for social media only I'm sure) perfect lives really are too much to take. So I mute them and then I only have to think about them when I am up for it.

I find it odd that she removed you instead of vice versa though? Did you comment excessively on her posts?

I removed about 50 friends who I knew would not be supportive of one of my children being LGBTQ. While they may "say" they are supportive, their vote for Trump and apathy toward affected groups since the inauguration locked my decision.

I don’t think it makes sense, why would she not want you to follow her, but she follows you? I’m not sure I’d take it personally because the opposite would be worse.

I’m pp and just seeing post above mine, would you object to what she’s posting?

One mom removed me from her FB following because DH and friends would comment about it — our kids were friends, so I went to look and was blocked. But, then months later she followed me on IG. I just chalk it up to people are just weird.

Grow up. Unfollow her and move on. You’re an adult, act like it.

Her account could have been hacked. Or, she had a little too much fruit of the vine and deleted this and that in a fruit punch rage, not looking, not thinking.

I wouldn’t take it personally.

Whenever I use LinkedIn on my phone, I end up "liking" some articles that I just clicked to open.

Same problem for "endorsing". The only person I endorsed was an accidental button press I didn't see. Then the person thanked me. Made me feel bad to withdraw it, so I didn't.

The user interface in one format may not be the same as another format.

I feel that could be a mistake? Most people would want as many followers as possible, and if she were offended by something you did, she would have unfollowed you. She's done the opposite of what makes sense. Maybe she accidentally deleted you instead of someone else.

It could also be a bug. META platforms are much buggier than people realize. It may straighten itself out. If it doesn't fix itself, I would just walk away. This is one of the ways SM messes with your brain. Your feelings are real, but SM has trained you to feel like you're in middle school again. Click your ruby heels and just leave it behind.

When I go to my list of followers, I just see X next to each, to remove them. She may have been cleaning up her list and clicked you by mistake.
