Sheet cakes

I need to order a grocery stores sheet cake. I don't eat a lot of cakes. Any recommendation for whipped vs. buttercream frosting? And what filling to get? I have gotten custard filling before and I like it but not sure it would be a hit with kids. Raspberry?

chocolate vanilla marble cake, or half chocolate/half vanilla (you can do this as two layers or literally half and half pieced together).

buttercream.

no filling.

I know everyone loves Costco but I don't have time to go there twice to get my cake, so it's out. It will probably be safeway or giant.

As others have said, go chocolate or marble or 1/2 1/2 choc/van for the cake layer. No filling, absolutely not a fruit filling. And go with white buttercream frosting (can be dyed to any color if you want) because the whipped topping is more likely to require refrigeration (and can only be tinted to pastel colors). If you're not a big cake fan the most convenient grocery store is fine.

Buttercream frosting, not whipped cream. Also, go Safeway - they do a fresh strawberry layer that blows Giant cakes out of the water

This is the way. Absolutely do not get the "whipped" garbage icing.

Ok I just placed my order. I went with Safeway sheet cake, mixed white/chocolate cake with fresh strawberry filling, and whipped cream frosting. They assured me the whipped frosting would last a few hours out of a fridge, so we'll see how it goes. I generally do not enjoy buttercream because it's too sweet and birthday child also does not enjoy really sweet things, so willing to give this a try. I was so excited they offered a fresh strawberry filling. Why do people not want filling? Anyways, I'll update once we have the party to see how the cake is received!

Because kids don't like fruit filling. Plus they aren't good.

Next time you can order what you want without stopping by DCUM.

Grocery store sheet cakes are so tacky. Ugh. If I see those are being served I decline.
