Vomited half of colonoscopy prep

Anonymous
I am doing the miralax/gatorade pretty for my first colonoscopy prep tomorrow. I vomited probably half of the 64 oz. ;( I kept the other half down. Will it still be ok?

No OP I don't think so. My younger sister (59) just did this. She went anyway to the facility and they sent her home. She was given an anti-nausea med and told to try again. I mean they were nice about it. I would just call them in the morning and let them know. Wish there was an easier way to get screened. Whole process just stinks.

I would call tonight and see if there is another option since you got this far.

Go get some more.

That happened to me. They told me I should have called even after hours for direction.

That being said, they did my colonoscopy and said I was perfectly cleaned out. They asked a lot of questions regarding my output before they decided to proceed.

I've had a lot of them. Used tablets last time. So much easier!

Yes, I second 19:45 -- this happened to me a few times ago & they said from that point on I should get the tablets. I would be careful - the time I vomited from the prep like you, I woke up from the colonoscopy (which they went ahead and did) having vomited while under anesthesia which is dangerous. Call your dr.

Call and ask, but I don't think you'll be clean enough. My friend vomited half the prep as well, couldn't reach the practice by phone, and showed up for her colonoscopy the next day. It turned out she wasn't clean enough and they couldn't see much. She had to go through the ordeal again soon after.

Yikes! Did they tell you whether you aspirated or not?

Yes. Call your doctor right now. There is a chance they will cancel. And even if they do it - they may “get in there” and not be able to visualize everything and you will have to do it all over! I wasn’t completely cleaned out when they did mine and now I have to back in 3 years instead of five…

I was worried I wouldn’t be cleaned out enough for the same reason. First, I didn’t feel like my bowels were doing too much. Second, I vomited so much. Next time I’m going to ask for anti-nausea.

Call the after hours doctor. They might prescribe you some Zofran or something like that and they might also switch you to a different prep.

Just get more

My daughter ended up in the ER with that exact prep from vomiting so much it made her dizzy. They were able to judge that she could still continue with the colonoscopy the next day.

Call them! Is what come out your rear now looking clear like water?

Don't get more without further instruction from a doctor.

Try the Suprep next time, it’s … not exactly GOOD but it hasn’t made me nauseous.

If what you’re emitting now looks like clear water, you’re good to go.
