Pitt, Penn State, Wisconsin are all bolded but not neighboring VT? |
| Too public. |
| Probably want to go to college rather than getting a job with a company that makes baby monitors. |
What? |
| Blacksburg is a backwater, far from DC and inconvenient to get too. Penn State is closer. Pitt is a similar distance but a better drive and a great city. Madison is a state capital, a great college town, and an easy flight. |
Pedantry. PP probably wants you to say "Virginia Tech" or "VaTech." |
I just thought it was funny that OP picked an uncommon way of abbreviating Virginia Tech that also happened to be something else. |
| Too poor. They go to expensive flagships or privates. |
| It's the usual troll who always refers to VT as "VTech." Very transparent. |
NP. I will never understand why people from that school are soooo touchy about spelling. The folks from most other schools just aren't so twitchy about spelling. |
| I suspect there aren’t many Sidwell students from Virginia, and VT isn’t as appealing as an out of state option compared to places like Pitt and the others you mentioned. |
| I know a few Sidwell graduates who went on to V Tech in the past 5 years. |
| In viewing where Sidwell Friends graduates are well-represented, they seem to like LACs, particularly those in Maine (Bowdoin, Colby, Bates), New York (Hamilton, Colgate, Skidmore) and Pennsylvania (Haverford, Lafayette), along with Wesleyan (CT) and Pitzer (CA). |
Embarrassed they paid so much for HS only to get into a large public. Figured farther away, the name is less recognizable. |
Agree. VT is great, but when my kid saw all that Pitt had to offer, he was more excited. And they're pretty equivalent schools, with each stronger in a few areas (VT stronger in some engineering, Pitt stronger in biomedical engineering, premed, nursing and anythign medical). |
