Why not kilometers?

This is a vent: As a parent that just had to help my kid calculate distance (inches, yards, miles), WTF haven't we adopted the metric system?!

Why? Namely because of nitwits like this: “They’re not using gallons and miles in North Korea. They’re using the metric system—so are Iran and China. I can’t imagine why we’d want any of that in our country,” Tucker Carlson said in an interview. - WSJ

Same thing with all measurements (volume or capacity). Base 10 is just easier to calculate.

It is too late now to switch to metric. And it has nothing to do with Tucker Carlson.

Only three countries do not officially use the metric system: the United States, Liberia, and Myanmar (formerly Burma).

Considering who is currently in charge of the country, do you really think its going to change anytime soon?

Accurate portrayal and very funny.

I agree the metric system is infinitely better.

I grew up in Europe and miss it so much.

I'm old enough to remember the 1970's when this was a point of discussion. There are too many people who don't like change even if it's totally logical and reasonable.

I’m on board with changing this but I don’t want it done now. I don’t want anything taking away attention from the other horseshit going on in our country that needs to be fixed.

Imperial units are better for living. Metric units are better for calculating.

Under the metric system people still use nonmetric units for time, and often for measures of angle. 60s/minute, 60min/hr, 24hr/day, 7 days/wk, etc. None of these are inherent to the universe. But turns out it's just not that hard.

Because it makes too much sense for Americans.

America is the land of insane stupidity. Look at our healthcare system. Look at our administration. Metric??? Lol. They makes too much sense.

Dumb question.

Because only communists use the metric system. We like 36 inches in a yard and 5280 feet in a mile because that's what god intended.

So every single scientist and engineer in the United States, who was trained in the metric system because it underpins pretty much all SI units, is a commie?

I know you're joking, but it's not like Americans aren't familiar with metric already. All of our engineers are.
