Cabo, La Paz, Cabo Pulmo

Would you travel to Cabo, La Paz and Cabo Pulmo? Is it considered safe? We are thinking of doing a family vacation there later this year. I have heard it is safe indeed but I'm not sure.

I’m interested in visiting that part of Mexico, but from the East Coast it’s a pain to get to because it’s not a direct flight.

Headed to Cabo in June with friends. All adults, hired a chef and rented a large place, we are looking forward to it. If I were not in San Diego the days before, I would have skipped it.

My family goes to Los Cabos all the time. Very safe on the Gold Coast especially in the nice resorts. When I’ve talked to Mexican worked there they say they are thrilled to get jobs there as it’s so much safer than mainland. The whole place basically feel like Arizona with an ocean.

La Paz has a reputation as being much more surfer low key. I would watch my stuff there but I think it’s still safe. Cabo Pulmo is supposed to have great snorkeling and diving but I haven’t been — I would absolutely do a day trip with one of the providers out of all’s Cabos.

I’m less sure about places further up the peninsula as you get closer to US. I would do just a random driving tour or take a boat out by myself. There is some drug trafficking up sea of Cortez I think. That said I would still love to do a nature cruise up sea of Cortez — it’s supposed to be amazing.

Southwest run a direct flight from BWI but it may only run on Saturdays? We flew nonstop there and a connection back and it was fine.

Los Cabos and La Paz are both fine to visit. La Paz is fairly developed these days. We kept an eye on stuff we left on the beach in La Paz when we went in the water but even so we had no issues.

We didn’t go south of La Paz (or north of los Cabos) on the eastern side of the peninsula because it’s much more undeveloped (I think the rental car company even warned us they wouldn’t come get us if we got stuck on the dirt roads, driving between Los Cabos and La Paz was fine during daylight hours.

Spent some time in Los Cabos in December and it was absolutely lovely. We rented a car drove around all the little towns. The snorkeling is great. It felt very safe. The food was amazing and all of the locals, super friendly and welcoming. We did stay at one of the nice resorts in Los Cabo’s and it was an amazing experience but again having the car allowed us to get out and have a little bit of a different experience than just being at the resort the whole time. On a previous trip a few years ago, we spent time outside of Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita and I would say it definitely did not feel as safe there as it did in Los Cabos.
