I work in energy policy and none of the experts I know believe this. I'm not trying to promote a conspiracy theory, but it's more likely that it was a relatively normal problem on the grid. Whether it was this or something else, the system should have been able to withstand it. The fact that they were running on 78% wind and solar with almost no "spinning reserves" made the grid particularly unstable due to a lack of inertia in the system and whatever the failure was created a series of cascading outages.

Above is remotely possible but not at all likely. For now, they probably really do not know.

Power companies that are inoperable will be focused narrowly on restoring power. Later, they will analyze what happened and what the root causes (likely more than one) are.

I could believe it. Minor system disturbances have caused major issues here as well. If you don’t program the computers running wind and solar to stay online they’ll trip.
