I work in energy policy and none of the experts I know believe this. I'm not trying to promote a conspiracy theory, but it's more likely that it was a relatively normal problem on the grid. Whether it was this or something else, the system should have been able to withstand it. The fact that they were running on 78% wind and solar with almost no "spinning reserves" made the grid particularly unstable due to a lack of inertia in the system and whatever the failure was created a series of cascading outages. I could believe it. Minor system disturbances have caused major issues here as well. If you don’t program the computers running wind and solar to stay online they’ll trip. [/quote]
