Is everything crazy expensive now?

Since 2021 (due to a job change) I’m making 20 percent more base salary with approximately the same bonus per year but lately (over the last year) I feel
more financially squeezed than I have in years. No major new home purchases although I paid a ton in taxes the past two years due to capital gains and an accidental overpayment to my 401K. We haven’t changed our spending that much (one nice vacation/year, don’t eat out every week etc). I get inflation but everything feels $$$$$$ these days. What are others doing to save or cut back?

Yes we got some big ticket purchases done before Trump Tariff inflation.

The way i figure it to make it make sense is that the level of comfort and materialism that is standard here is a blip in human history and maybe there's a reason for that and maybe now correcting back to what human standard of living was for most time and still in many parts of the world. And it's rough coming down but I'm trying to accept that the life that people got used to is coming to an end. I was born in soviet union and figuring in to witness round 2 here

You sound very fortunate. You probably have to just get used to being more mindful about spending. Meal plan, grocery shop, think carefully about the type of cars you purchase. Put of any major purchases.

Thanks but we already budget carefully. Even with planning we have less to spend on extras which is my point.

No. We have a cocktail each and a shared entree at a neighborhood restaurant. We walk out spending $60-$70 with tip. We do that every weekend. It’s a nice way to enjoy a casual evening without overspending.

2020/2022 was the largest wealth transfer the world had ever experienced.

The top 1% got richer, everyone else suffering from inflation and devalued currency worldwide.

Don't bite into any more apples that little old ladies give you.
