Are more farmers, small business owners, cargo and construction trade people turning on Trump?

So many of these businesses will be wiped out entirely because of tariffs.

Trump’s approval rating dropped ten points in the last month among REPUBLICANS - I have to assume this is part of it.

Many people believe that the tariffs will work. Europe, China, Canada, Japan and Mexico will beg the US for forgiveness, tear down all of their tariff and non-tariff barriers, de-industrailize themselves, and all manufacturing will move to the US in record time. I do believe that many Trump supporters think this is how the story will play out.

No. They are all in. It will have to get really bad like unemployment 20%.

And sadly, they will be wrong, but we will all be paying for that miscalculation for the rest of our lives.

Farmers will get bailed out like always.

As they should. Food is fundamental.

Farmers 2024: NO HANDOUTS! PEOPLE NEED TO WORK! I CAN'T GET ANYONE TO PICK MY CROPS!

Farmers 2025: Excuse me, daddy Trump, I need some money or else I'm going to go bankrupt. But you're done wonderful, sweetie. Go daddy! But yes, please give money. Shhh. Let's keep this quiet.

But corn and soybeans raised to be shipped overseas are not.

I hope not. They voted for this. Also majority of their crops go overseas and have nothing to do with feeding Americans. Why bail them out again?

I'd like to hear from the farmers here. Oops. Silly me. I forgot where I was.

Many people believe professional wrestling is real too. I bet the overlap between the two groups is huge.

Super interesting discussion with Trump voters in the NYTs a couple days ago. Do they think tariffs work? They were split, but willing to give them a chance. Are they willing to endure short term pain while tarriffs work? Yes, they say they are. When asked to define the “short term pain,” they would endure, most landed in the range of 2-3 months. Which is absolutely long enough to change supply chains and build factories and train works /s. (To produce goods that will be more expensive. By that metric, Trump has until about mid to late summer to reinvent American manufacturing. Good luck with that. Especially since no one is investing in factories when Tru ps tariff policy is so erratic. They’ll just wait him out.

By Christmas, when their kids missed summer vacation (gas proaces) and cheap plastic cr@p has tripled in prince and they can’t afford Christmas dinner, they will be well past “short term pain” and have learned a hard lesson about tarriffs. Until then, logic and “it takes 5-10 tears to bring a factory (that will be automated and employ white collar folks to maintain the robots, but not you)” isn’t going anywhere with the cult. It will take hunger and kids without Christmas presents.

+1. No bailouts. Time for capitalism to do its thing to farmers, just like the rest of us.
