NASA's beautiful Roman space telescope launch defunded: what are they thinking?

If there is anything where democrats and republicans can agree, it is that NASA is the heart of America. Why would they defund the launch of this important instrument?

Don’t know anything about this but the anti-science, anti-progress slant of Project 25/MAGA is real.

but isn't it weird that the media hasn't picked this up? does nobody care about science?

Because most of the mainstream/big media and news networks are carrying water for this administration.

It might not be a financial priority right now. Also, it may be that private industry could build it cheaper and faster, with the US simply leasing time along with other countries. NASA has already taken advantage of the cost savings (and functional) SpaceX rockets. Is this any different?

Oh yea right. Build it cheaper and faster and then it will explode. Elon wants to build it alright, so he'll get them do stop something where money has already been invested if he thinks he can take it over and make more money while he wrecks it and sets research back by years.

This administration is the fraud and waste.

this is a truely unique instrument that only the US has built. It is cutting edge science. not launching it means irreplaceable knowledge is lost (until the Chinese build one... I guess they are seeing their opportunity)

When Obama was President it was declared that NASA's primary mission is outreach to the Muslim world.

Why is it named after a CNN legal commentator?

Is this a joke? It's named after Nancy Grace Roman.

I was wondering if people who say this are spreading disinformation or just easily fooled by misinformation? In other words are you purposely lying or just badly misinformed?

Reaching out to the Muslim world is not part of NASA chief Charlie Bolden's job, the White House said Monday.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Bolden probably misspoke in recent remarks in which the NASA chief and former astronaut said one of his foremost tasks in leading NASA is to engage with Muslim nations about science.

"That was not his task, and that's not the task of NASA," Gibbs said during Monday's daily briefing.

They are talking about closing Goddard altogether.

The telescope is already built, assembled, and completely on budget if not slightly under. Was scheduled to launch next year. Just going through final environmental testing at space craft level (as a single unit). Total waste of money to cancel it (and close Goddard).

They want to outsource to Elon musk.

NASA is a competitor to Elon Musk’s SpaceX; therefore, NASA funding will decrease, SpaceX funding will increase, somehow.
