My DS would be a size 2T, almost 3T in height and weight, but is only 15 months, hasn't really taken off walking yet, and still has a lot of his baby chub on him. It isn't an issue when he's in shorts, but as I look at fall clothing, it seems that the T sized pants look very slim cut. Can anyone recommend brands where the T's are still generous enough to account for baby fat?
We've been stocking up on sweat pants and carpenter jeans, but would like a couple pairs of basic chinos or chords. Thanks in advance! |
| T sizes are not generally slim cut. It's when there's no T that the pants are slimmer, as they assume there is no diaper. Have you tried the pants on your son? I've found Children's Place pants to run big, but I imagine they will be too long for your son. |
| OP here. I've only tried on gymboree pants and they were too tight. I figured children's place might be better (that's where we bought his jeans) but the store we went to was very poorly stocked so I didn't find any other 2Ts that I liked. |
| We have a similar problem with pants. DD isn't overweight, but we use cloth diapers, which make her butt HUGE. I just put her in stretchy pants (mostly from Target) though the stretchy pants option might be better for girls than it is for boys. |
| I recently got some Circo cords at Target that had an adjustable waist--might be worth checking if they fit your DS because you could leave the waist at the widest setting. I hear you about finding clothes that fit--my 18 mo DS is wearing 3T tops, but even the 2T pants are way too long for him. |
| I also have a girl, which seems to be easier, but she's been a 2T since about 11 mos. We do lots of capri pants -- some fit as ankle pants and some as full pants -- and I'm sure there's a masculine equivalent. |
| I have found that gap cloths tend to run big and old navy small. |
| I've found the opposite with Gap and ON. |
| try some stores that carry stuff in 36 months such as pennies, macys and sears. Target also. My friends son is the same way so she has shopped in department stores and has been successful... |
| Old Navy has toddler cords right now on sale for $10 and you can also apply coupons for extra discount. My DD is 4 and STILL has a baby belly, really big belly... so the 4T are a tad tight in the belly and very long. I just get her 5T that you can adjust the waist and roll up the legs or have altered. |

| I also have a chubby toddler. I dont sew but I use 'stitch witchery' to hem pants when they're too long - it's basically wax tape you iron into a hem. I like Old Navy - they are too long, but they're cheap and last well, and I havent found any brands that fit perfectly without alterations. |
Where can I get this. (I am sewing impaired). I have same problem as OPbut have been reluctant to alter too long pants in case she grows into them. |
I'm not the sewing PP (I'm sewing impaired too) but the original Old Navy poster... I have never had my DD outgrow pants in length. her belly always outgrows her legs
I've seen those iron-on hem for curtains (at IKEA). You just mark the hem with pins and iron the tape over... it's really easy. I normally don't shop much at Old Navy because some of their stuff is on the lower quality end (like shirts) but their cords are really good and really inexpensive compared to other stores... they have free shipping on orders over $50 right now |
