s/o what people are people thinking of when they refer to "illegal immigrants?"

I think that's more productive than saying "no human is illegal", and I don't even know what the phrase is intended to mean.

I believe a lot of MAGA think temporary protected status--which has been issued many, many times for people from a wide range of countries--is not a legal status. I believe they think people who have been paroled for one reason or another, or are in the asylum seeking process, are "illegal." They certainly aren't "undocumented," since their presence is known (because they are involved in some kind of legal process, duh) and under the law it DOES NOT MATTER if you arrive in the country other than through a customs and border patrol location, you are still entitled to request asylum. People who have been complying with terms of their presence here, such as check-ins with immigration, and have not committed felonies or violent misdemeanors should not be getting swept up. People who have been given work permits, same.

No limits on the numbers?

Brown people

For me it’s people who snuck into the country, over stayed visas or are here under false pretenses.

Im not exactly sure I understand what you’re asking. When I hear the term “illegal immigrant,” I think someone who crossed the southern border without authorization. I.e., they came into the US “illegally.”

If your counterpoint (?) is that it’s actually legal to come into the country at the southern border with zero authority because you intend to seek asylum, then I dunno… I guess you are saying there’s no way to enter the US illegally, so long as you say “I’m seeking asylum”

But I don’t think that’s how asylum works???

At least someone's honest.

This, in the end, is what it comes down to.

And that would be a relatively small amount of people, PP.

Trump promised millions and millions of deportations of illegal criminals... but the fact of the matter is, the highest number of deportations was 400,000 a couple of years ago. It's what the system can bear. Now it can't any more, because there have been so many federal cuts. Now the administration is saying they want a goal of 1 million deportations for 2025, but that's still not going to happen unless they rehire a ton of agents, give them a ton of money, somehow magic a ton of extra ICE detention facilities into existence, and of course violate due process and count a whole lot of revoked visas.

I suspect that's why they're detaining and deporting tourists at the borders, and revoking student visas and rounding up brown people on the street. They want to hit that number and they know it's going to be next to impossible.

There are citizens and non citizens. Amongst non citizens there are legal visitors/guests, legal aliens and visa holders, and illegal aliens.

Citizens have different rights than non citizens have fewer rights; those here illegally entered the country in a way that provides them with the fewest rights and should be exited as they bypassed the legal system all together.

Democrats are attempting to make non citizens congruent to citizens in every way. This isn’t the way it’s supposed to work. Earning citizenship should be difficult and scrutinized. I say this as the child of parents who both legally earned their citizenships to the US, which took decades.

Most of the asylum seekers are frauds, just making up stories, when they are actually coming for better economic prospects.

Most of these people are coached by lawyers on what to say to convince an immigration judge.

Probably not thinking about the 10000 or so illegal immigrants from Ireland

My reading is "immigrants" who are "illegal". EG someone who immigrated or went through our immigration system illegally. EG immigrants that committed green card fraud. Such as the high-profile cases DOJ v Meta and DOJ v Apple, where the illegal immigrants discriminated against Americans filling out their PERM certifications.

Somebody who snuck in, maybe with a coyote, not at any entry point and just "disappeared" into the community.

If you sneaked into this country and evaded Border Patrol and US Customs.

If you over-stayed a student Visa.

If you over-stayed a work Visa.

If you over-stayed a tourist Visa.

If you live here, willingly, without legal status, and are actively evading CBP, ICE, or any contact with LE, because you know you’re here illegally.

I have *some* compassion and believe grace should be extended to young children who were brought here by their parents, with no say in the matter.

Beyond them, I don’t care who your are, where you’re from, what color you are or what language you speak - you need to get in line and come here the honest way. Period.

I have compassion for all those that made it here and are here for the sole purpose of a better life with more opportunity. I also have compassion for the many, many people who wish to come here for that same reason but never had the opportunity to for geographic reasons. Our diversity does make us stronger and that's why we need to completely stop the flow of migrants from Central and South America and widen the flow of migrants from other parts of the world to achieve more balance in diversity. How many people from Bangladesh and Burundi have come here as asylum seekers in recent years relative to El Salvador and Venezuela? We must do better!

What kind of question is this? Any alien on US territories without valid US government permission.

There is immigration law. There is INS.

Of course 'no human is illegal'.
