Biggest discount-VA edition

Can anyone speak to the deals their HS is getting from VA colleges this year? What's been the best bang for money school/decision?

VA prepaid529 18 years ago for ~$37K is turning out to have been a pretty decent investment for his upcoming UVA freshman year. Sure we could have made more $ in the market, but we invested more into the invest529, which has done well.

When you say deals do you mean merit money? Typically the VA schools aren’t known for giving tons of merit.

For low costs, cnu, gmu and living at home, and going to nova cc for two years and then transferring are your best bets.

VCU-full tuition merit. Kid isn’t going though.

If you live at home NOVA is about 80% discount off W&M.

I have heard of kids getting good merit money from ODU.

Last year, DD could have gone to UMW for $15k net price (tuition/fees, room & board).

I also know a girl going to VCU with full tuition merit. She was a straight A student in HS and is loving VCU.

Alabama- $28k in merit
Purdue-$30k in merit and school has not increased tuition in years so it is a great deal

This thread is supposed to be about VA schools.

My daughter got a pretty good size merit award from Mary Washington.

OP here. I didn't frame my question well. Can you post your personal COA for the VA college your DC will be attending? We are trying to figure out the lowest we can go for a mid student.

Just look at their websites. Other people’s financial aid offers aren’t relevant to you. Thought you meant merit.

What’s a “mid” student? What wgpa and sat? What county?

DS goes to Virginia Tech, 2nd year. Cost of attendance is what it says on the website (we get no financial or merit aid) -- $16,450 tuition/fees. His apartment is $512/month. Food maybe $3k per year (we pay for his "dining dollars" as an off campus student and give him some grocery money but he pays for other food).

VT gives very limited scholarships, so you can generally assume that you are paying what it says on the site. But, we've found off campus living costs less than the first year in the dorm.
