Mother can't drive anymore. 2010 Nissan Cube, 128,000 miles. Not in the greatest shape - dents, faded paint. Blue Book is 3,500 to 4,000. It's a decent car for a student or someone needing a cheap ride to work.
How do I sell it? Could go on Marketplace, but no way do I want to sit in the car with a stranger so they can take it on a test drive. |
| See what CarMax will offer you. Avoid Carvana. |
| Carmax. |
Meet them at local police station, you hold onto their keys and vehicle while they test drive it. Ask for a DL if you want, but that might be considered a breach of personal data. Could ask them to leave their DL at the police station desk though while they take the car out. |
| OP, make sure your KBB valuation is correct. From what you describe, your car is in “Fair” condition, maybe the low end with the paint and body appearance. Compare the low end private party price with the low end trade in value. Decide if that difference in price is worth the hassle of selling car privately. |
Please don’t ask the police station desk to do this. It’s not their job. |

A high school .. We often have cars parked with for sale signs - typically on the weekend. |
| Carmax or some other company. Not a person. Even selling as is if the front wheel falls off and they get injured they will sue you. Even if you don't lose, it's a hassle you don't need. |
| Carmax |
| I have sold a couple old cars to NICO Buys Cars, which is about the same as Carmax. |
Ours wouldn’t. |
Yeah, seems the police's only job is to extort money from the public and selectively enforce ludicrous laws on select groups of people. Police are mostly worthless now, and if they wouldn't help in a situation like this, let them know it and hell with them. |

OP, I've found your buyer: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1269723.page |
| CarMax. There is no way I’d take the risk of FB Marketplace or private sale of any type to get a few extra dollars. My safety is worth more than the additional money I might get. |
Lots of police stations specifically tell you to do your in-person meetups for online trades at the police station. There's no reason not to ask, if it's not something they offer then they'll say no. No harm no foul. |
