| Looking to add safeties for my son. He is interested in business. Current 3.7 UW. Attends a private school without AP so not sure what weighted would be but takes hard classes. Wants a big SEC school with a happy campus vibe. Not sure on greek life but would be open to it. We are conservative and he does attend church. He had taken practice SAT and is currently 1450 practice. Have read nice things about Ole Miss but would love to get feedback from current families. Interested in hearing about campus including how do you get there? Housing and food. Greek life and what to expect. Internships for accounting major. Thank you |

1450 and 3.7 UW he will be in the TOP 5% of Ole Miss….
SEC school with the largest Greek Component. I’m sorry but your kid can do A LOT better than Ole Miss…. |
| I am told we have to have at least two safeties. Curious what would be a safety for a kid who wants an SEC school with this profile. |
Any SEC schools that’s not Texas, Texas A&M, UGA, UF, South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, Vandy. The rest are safeties. |
UGA/UF/Texas would be a reach, SC/Tennessee /Auburn a target, Ole Miss/Bama/LSU a safety. OP is right. |
+10000 **A LOT** better than Ole Miss. |
| The name itself is racist AF, naturally. Do yourself a favor and at least call it the University of Mississippi. |
| You're not going to get good advice here, just ranting about racism and frats. |
Looks like pretty good advice so far. |
| University of Kentucky might be worth a look for a safety. Huge SEC school spirit- the basketball and football games are tons of fun. KY leans more conservative, although Lexington is a blue city, so UK is pretty balanced politically. I’m from KY and U of Miss is a popular option among our HS seniors who want to go OOS, many similarities to UK. |
| Texas Tech would be an excellent safety |
It has a top accounting program and 1450 SAT and above gets buckets of merit. Yes, it’s a safety, but my recommendation is that those two criteria should make it a school you consider alongside (and not lesser than) targets. |

We recently returned from a visit there (along with two other SEC schools). We have a DC'26.
There's a reason it's routinely listed as one of the more beautiful campuses and College "towns." It's laid out in a thoughtful, cohesive manner (academics around The Grove), dorms around a newly enclosed courtyard. The surrounding town, though, is small, the center "Square" very charming with delicious food choices. The brand-new building -- just for Acccounting -- made my CPA-DH speechless. The tour guide really glossed over the very large Greek community, which our family wasn't much interested in. Their on-campus Catholic church was beautiful. If you go, try to schedule a seating at the Lenior Dining experience (their Culinary Arts program students). We, unfortunately, didn't "know" in time and it conflicted with our tour slot. It isn't the easiest to get to with the nearest airport being Memphis. Two-lane backroads required at some point. They take their SEC sports, tailgaiting, swag/gear and roundabouts seriously. It is very, very "Southern." It's a polite "no, thank you" from our DC but mostly because they don't have the specific degree program of interest and it's just. too. darn. far. (we drove from VA) |
Not SEC |
How is Ole Miss a racist term? |
