NVSL pools with evening practice

Anonymous
I'm trying to figure out which NVSL pools offer evening practice. Our pool is saying we are the only pool that does. I don't believe that is correct.

There is a lot of variety in what evening practice means. Practicing 2 days a week with a mixed age group is not at all the same as daily practice with peers.

True. Evening practice is rarely as good as morning. But for some parents, it is the only option. Having your kid swim 10-11 in the morning just doesn't work with getting to the office. So unless practice ends before 9 am, it ain't happening.

I will say that we used to have two lanes and a coach running an evening practice three days a week. But parents started complaining because morning practice had more coaching, they would do fun stuff (but they controlled the whole pool), and the quality of the practices were better and they wanted the team to make the evening practices as good, etc. The pool was mad enough about the number of lanes being used "all summer" and paying coaches both morning and practice wasn't affordable.

So something is better than nothing, but it is not the same.

Our pool is not on the list above but does offer evening practice. It's fine but not really enough for a serious swimmer. You lose Monday nights to meets. Then our pool often has Friday night events. So you're left with just 3 nights, and inevitably there will be a thunderstorm (or just distant rumbles of thunder to close the pool) for one or more of those nights.

Better to offer early morning practices. 7 am means my kid swims and we make it to work and summer camp without incident.

Our pool offers both… an early morning campers practice and an evening practice. Neither is as fun as the morning practices but we do our best to make summer swim team an option for anyone who wants to participate.

I mean, actual serious swimmers don’t need their summer league practices at all.

Our team doesn’t offer pm practices after the school year ends but the morning practices are done by 10.

LOADS of clubs have evening options

I just clicked on some of the teams and they all switch to only morning practices around July 12.

The summer swim seasons is essentially done then. The only meets left are Divisionals and All Stars. The NVSL shifted everything earlier a few years back and it makes summer swim almost not feel like summer swim anymore because it’s done so early.

Sorry, I meant June 12, not July

^this. Our pool looked at adding evening practices. Didn’t want to pay coaches more and then complained about quality. You can’t make everyone happy.

Our pool stopped doing evening practices after most of the families who claimed the limited spots each time failed to ever show up.
