CT scan risks

Anonymous
My dd has one scheduled for this week for breathing issues: ENT could not see anything well in her nose which was inflammed and recommended a CT scan to also look at sinuses. Now of course this am without looking for it at all I see an article about how dangerous CT scans are due to radiation levels, especially head ones, and how they can cause cancer. Would this worry you?

Talk to your doctor about treating your anxiety.

Just let whatever is growing up there go untreated.

It’s fine and normal to do a bunch of them. I have.

They give you a HUGE dose of ionizing radiation for sure.

Surprised they wouldn't do an MRI instead. Are MRI's more expensive or something?

Main danger I'd be concerned with is Thyroid glands and the abundant lymph nodes in that area.

An MRI was not presented as an option. I was just going by what the ENT (who came highly recommended and is great) was saying. Then I read this today and I am second guessing.

I have had 3. My son has had two. Sometimes you have to assume risks to get the necessary information. Nothing is risk free.

F yes this would worry me!

I wouldn’t unless the breathing issues were a really big deal. What does he think he will see in the sinuses? most likely it is allergies.

MRI or nothing. That is ridiculous to do a CT scan for congestion.

CT’s are safer than MRI’s if they have to have to the heavy metal contrast gad.
