| I see people here consistently juxtapose it with T20/25 schools. Why is that? |
| It’s ranked 37 on us news and world report. I don’t think comparing a school ranked 37 to a school ranked 25 is that ridiculous. |
| It has an 11% acceptance rate, so pretty elite. |
|
Tufts is a very solid school, particularly if your DC is interested in premed or IR. They have an early assurance program for medical school.
I wouldn't be looking at the ranking. |
|
Why?
Again? Talk to someone irl please. |
|
Tufts was ranked around 29-30-ish for a long time.
Keep in mind that the current US News rankings changed quite a bit with each formula change over the last few years to emphasize social mobility/Pell data, which favors large publics and disfavors mid size privates, especially those that weren't all the way at the top. |
| It only takes 1-2 rabid boosters (or detractors) on DCUM to change the entire feel of a university on here |
|
Boston is a wonderful place to go to college. More of a true campus feel than Northeastern or BU. Strong across a large number of majors - art, IR, sciences. Has kept a rigorous core curriculum. A rare LAC that has an engineering school and med school attached. Wonderful school spirit and alumni network. Great grad school outcomes. |
But you all don't compare BC is the same way. |
| Tufts is a notch above BC altho the BC alum network is real |
Clarification, it is not an LAC. It's categorized as a national university. |
| For IR, 60k GWU vs full pay at Tufts, what would you choose? |
Then T25s are 2 above BC and 1 above Tufts? |
|
Tufts is not overrated.
It's a solid, selective T50 school. |
|
I'm not a Tufts booster but I think it gets a lot of hate on DCUM. Every post seems to trash the school because it's not in downtown Boston or (one of my favorite stupid complaints) the campus is hilly.
Fwiw, I went to Tufts for grad school a million years ago but found the undergrads really obnoxious then. But now I look and say - a medium sized student body, proximate to a GREAT college city, with excellent graduate programs... what's not to like? I don't think Tufts is overrated, I think it's underrated. |
