Prove me I’m wrong: DC parents are the WORST

Anonymous
I’m both an educator and parent of a kid in public. I have worked in both the private and public sector in DC and in Wisconsin. By far, DC parents are the most insufferable and entitled group I have ever encountered. Worse when they have even the slightest privilege.

I said to prove me I’m wrong but you won’t be able to. Maybe help me understand why this is the case? Maybe an urban phenomenon? but I’ve never worked in NYC or LA or Seattle so I don’t have that perspective.

I grew up in a more “normal” place and am now a DC parent and I cannot argue, OP. We’re pretty awful. This place really sucks you in and I’m not real sure why.

Ok

Yes, lots are awful. Lots are awesome. You only have experience of two, so you can DC is worse than WI but not the worst. You haven’t taught in NYC.

So, when making the claim that “DC parents are the worst”:
1. You have to prove it right before expecting anyone to prove you wrong. What’s this claim all about..
2. And who are you comparing to? Wisconsin? Parents in other capitals of the world?

Seoul?

Depends what you define as the "worst" traits in a parent, OP. If you mean creating a high-pressure environment for one's children, and not being averse to the occasional backstabbing of a rival, then I refer you to the East Asian capitals.

And please don't confine yourself to the US. The US is pretty tame by comparison.

Nope, Montgomery County parents are the worst, just ask anyone who works with their children

Boring troll. You didn’t even make up some examples.

It’s bad but not the worst. My proof: while there is minor country club/debutante dumbassery it’s a tiny percentage.

I think it gets better as kids get older.

Op here: Fair arguments. Perhaps just venting and like to hear that I’m not alone in my “wtf is wrong with everyone.” Clearly can’t be specific about the reason for my vent, I’m just astonished at times. If it wouldn’t cost me my job or teaching license, I would laugh in the face of many a grievance.

Give us some stories, please.

Aren’t you a DCPS parent? Are you the worst? Or is it everyone except you?

I think you're allowed to laugh. It's a little silly for the parent to whine to the Principal that "Mrs Larla *laughed* at me so you need to fire her". Teacher don't grow on trees, OP.

Oh cut it out. One can be hyperbolic and others can understand the point. The point of your comment, however, I cannot understand.

And no, I do not run screaming at my child’s school to terminate teachers because they looked at me wrong or my kid took scissors and cut a tiny slit in their shirt.
