April 10: Planes collide on taxiway at Reagan Airport with members of Congress aboard; no injuries reported

I am not someone who generally freaks out when there is a plane crash. I have sufficient understanding of statistics to accept that I'm in far more danger every time I get in my car.
However...
I'll be flying out of Dulles for the foreseeable future.

+1 I stated in another thread.. I am avoiding DCA.

I have to fly at the end of the month. I looked for flights out of BWI or IAD. I chose BWI.

There's a headline on the Post about two planes wings clipping at National, but I canceled my subscription due to their cowardice so I can't read the details. Oh well. I will use my imagination.

Washington DC CNN
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate after two American Airlines regional jets bumped wings at Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport.

“The wingtip of American Airlines Flight 5490 struck American Airlines Flight 4522 on a taxiway… around 12:45 p.m,” the FAA said in a statement.

Flight 5490 was headed to Charleston, South Carolina while flight 4522 was headed to JFK International Airport in New York with seven members of Congress onboard.

“BlueStreak 5490, did we hit the aircraft next to us,” the pilot flying asked the tower in air traffic control audio captured by the website LiveATC.net

Gottheimer, Meng and LaLota were three of them. I wasn’t aware there were seven.

Agree, though unfortunately I have to fly out of DCA tomorrow. A bit anxious for sure. Will avoid in the future c

Worth remembering that Congress is directly responsible for National being so busy in the first place. They have pushed over the years to have more and more flights out of National so that they can get to and from their districts/states more easily. A real reaping-sowing moment.

Worth remembering that Trump/DOGE cut FAA's budget, and that some of these accidents have been attributed to overworked staff doing two jobs when they should be doing one.
