| I have a junior DS from New England. He’s preppy, loves the outdoors. Unsure if major, likely Poly Sci or Econ. We had been looking at smaller schools closer to home but UVA seems to have that je ne sais quoi that sets it apart from other state schools. |
| It’s very overrated. If you’re paying for OOS you can do better. |

Rich, preppy, outdoorsy, attractive kids from
New England definitely thrive at UVA. |
| There are thousands of students there. Probably all kinds. |
| Independent, outgoing, and smart. The first two because it's a fairly big school and the latter because it's a competitive school with little grade inflation or hand holding. |
Unless you get $ to attend |
As a former New Englander, wondering why that particular adjective? |
Hard disagree. This is the best OOS public for a postgrad East Coast network. |
| NP here - for OOS do they give any merit aid or is that reserved for VA residents? Also, I hear the housing can be a nightmare. Is that true? TIA! |
They probably mentioned “attractive” to exclude any typical loud, aggressive kids from Dorchester or Brockton who might have shown up in Charlottesville asking strangers where they can get a wicked grindah. |
This. It is hard to get classes. Dorms are meh. Then everyone moves off campus sophomore year and u need to ride transportation to class. It is a beautiful part of the country. I get relaxed every time I come in on rte 29 and start seeing the VA countryside, rolling hills. VT is better for the football experience and engineering, pre-vet, etc. It’s a lot of Greek life which turned my kid off. |
| If you are willing to pay out of state u can do better with a private |
Merit aid is very limited at UVA. |
| Other than VT and UGA, how would you rate the other southern OOS schools? |
| Throw in a RD application and come visit if he gets in. |
