We booked an tour of the acropolis already and we want to do 1 island. What else should we do? We have 4 full days. |
You don’t need four full days in Athens. Add that to the time you have in the islands. We spent two nights in Athens and it was plenty - we did the acropolis one day and a full day trip to the Peloponnese for the other. |
We really enjoyed the Olympic Stadium, and the Ancient Agora and Roman Forum were cool. If your kids are like mine, even if they get bored of ruins they will be into the (generally well fed, healthy looking, friendly) street cats everywhere, who seem to especially like the ruins. If your kids aren’t especially picky eaters I would do a food tour. Go to some place with a rooftop view of the Acropolis for drinks or dinner. There is the changing of the guard. Going on the cable car to the top of Lykabettus Hill. Maybe a street art tour through Psiri? (And could swing by Little Kook.) |
Awesome we are specifically excited about the street cats ![]() |
We took a bag of cat treats and my daughter carried them around everywhere to make friends. |
The Parthenon museum is great. |
Should actually be Acropolis Museum, but it's an amazing museum. |
We took a day trip to Delphi and really enjoyed that. I agree Athens itself doesn’t require more than 2 days. |
One day for Athens. Yuck. |
Agree - One day at the Acropolis Museum and one day in Delphi is plenty. We also did a Greek cooking class the afternoon we arrived which my kids liked. We did a day trip to Mycenae which no one was really that excited about and I wouldn't recommend. |
No way, Athens is awesome! |
+1 changing of the guard! |
We really enjoyed Mycenae but it is sort of a trek from Athens. From Nafplio is was nice and not so far that we felt we needed to devote hours to make it worthwhile. Also it was spring. It could be very hot and unshaded in the summer. |
We clearly did not visit the same city. Big and dirty and concrete. Yes the ruins are cool but they are also VERY ruined. That was about it that was neat. |
What diverse opinions! We have a long list- the plaka neighborhoods, rooftop dinner at Kuzina overlooking acropolis, the stadium, changing of the guards, botanical gardens, island day tour, etc Maybe americans coming to Greece from the Us feel a huge need to make it like disneyland (all of those who only mentioned going to the acropolis for example) we do slow
Tourism trying to maximize the experience not tick things of the list. |
