APS School Board Race

No thread on the SB race yet? I'll start it!

Moe Bryant vs. June Prakash. Moe is getting all of the endorsements and will likely win based on that. June got her endorsement from the AEA of which she is the president. Seems self-serving and conflict of interest but okay. I'm interested in other people's thoughts. Both seem like good additions to the SB otherwise.

I had the same thought about how weird it is to have AEA promoting June when June is the president of AEA. Are there any rules against it? Seems wrong.

The AEA should have sat out this race IMO. But they've had some questionable endorsements in the past few years, for example Angelo, not endorsing Kathleen, so endorsing June tracks.

I didn’t see anything suggesting that Moe has worked in a school so I won’t be voting for her, if I’m wrong and she has I’ll consider it.

AEA has been weird for a long time. There was the embezzlement issue, the Angelo endorsement, and now endorsing their own president. I don't trust them, unfortunately.

I didn't even know endorsing yourself was a thing lol

I don't think Moe is or was a teacher, but like Mary, Bethany and Kathleen she has been very involved in APS as a volunteer for many years even before the pandemic. She's a good candidate.

Mary is an anomaly

Have they said anything about their positions? I remember June being pretty frank about iPads for kindergartners not too long ago. Has she staked out that position?

“ Moe is the Executive Director of Challenging Racism, an Arlington-based non-profit devoted to building a just and anti-racist society through compassionate dialogue. ”

So the choice is between a self-dealing union boss and a professional woke scold.

June seems desperate. Between the deleted post she made on the AEA page and attacking Moe on her campaign facebook page, June is showing that she's thin skinned and unfit to serve on the school board.

NP I think that sums it up quite nicely.

More deets please? I think I saw the aea post. It was full of grammatical errors and didn’t make much sense. But I missed the other one.

Sorry, which characterization do you object to? The one who is likely to get her union decertified or the one likely to get us sued by the Justice Department?
