Increased water intake = peeing constantly

Anonymous
Is everyone else just living like this, too? Constantly running to the bathroom?

I drink about 40-80oz of water throughout the day, outside of what I drink with meals, so it’s not excessive, I don’t think. But I’m peeing like every hour, sometimes more, depending on intake.

Is this just how we live?

That’s your body telling you that you don’t need that much water …

This. 2+ liters plus more at meals is a lot

Did you just increase your intake? Your body should adjust. I drink around 80-100oz per day, and don’t pee that often.

If you’re truly worried though, talk to your doctor.

Seems normal, particular if this is new to you.

Basically. 80oz is not much really, just 2/3 gallon roughly.

If you are drinking bottled water, it has sodium and magnesium added to it, which can cause an electrolyte imbalance as most people get too much sodium and not enough potassium. That can cause excessive urination and even dehydration.

Drink distilled water or filtered tap water, preferably well water, instead of that bottled water junk.

This is a great way to get water intoxication

just drink to thirst unless you have kidney issues

In addition to this, if this water intake has been your average for a while, and it's not bottled drinking water, have your blood glucose checked.

My body adjusted to drinking a lot of water.

Why are you trying to drink so much anyways?

That's really not that much water. 40 oz is nothing. Especially if you work out. I drink a ton of water and yes I go to the bathroom a lot but nowhere near hourly. Maybe every 2 hours or so.

Since RTO, I drink a lot of water at the office. (Filtered tap-- from one of those faucets that shows a running tally of how many plastic bottles it is saving.) I'm doing extremely mental exhausting work so I really need the break and this "habit" kind of forces me to take one.

Anyone else doing this?

The last time I focused on drinking a lot of water I ended up having electrolyte imbalance issues. Now I just drink when I'm thirsty and I feel much better. I also pay attention to the color of my pee and if it's getting too dark I drink more. It's not natural to be chugging water constantly all day. Drinking too much water can also cause issues with digestion because it can lower your stomach acid levels. Obviously, if you are working out you should stay hydrated and make sure you get your electrolytes, but you don't need to be downing water constantly while sitting at a desk all day.
