Last Day to Withdraw from DC Catholic Schools Without Being on the Hook for Tuition.

Anonymous
DC is enrolled at a DC Catholic School (think St SJC, Visi, or Gonzaga) and is waitlisted at another school. I know the non-Catholic private schools have a June 1 deadline for withdrawing without being on the hook for full tuition. Anyone know if it is the same for Catholic schools? I couldn't immediately find anything and I don't want to ask the school at this point.

Reread the contract you signed. It’s in there somewhere. If you really can’t find it, name the school and maybe someone there can help you. Not all schools are the same.

+1. It’s in your contract. DS is at Gonzaga and last year the last day to cancel was 5/31, I think. I didn’t check this year when I signed the contract, but 5/31 is a Saturday so I’m not sure if the date might be different this year.

If it’s Gonzaga they said maybe some spots in May so I assume not end of May.

What about SJC?

I'd also read carefully "how" to successfully pull out of the contract. We had a contract we pulled out of a few years ago that required us to contact a set of specific people. I'd be nervous about doing this successfully on a Saturday. (basically - it wasn't something a simple as clicking a "no thanks button online"_

PS this is a good thing to check - we know families who were called last minute on 5/31 to get off WL - be prepared just in case.

Thanks. I saw the enrollment contract - so everyone is on the hook after Friday?

If the contract date is Friday and you don’t withdraw on Friday (and if you’re planning to cut it close, it’s worth confirming the time - 5 pm, midnight, etc) then yes, you (and everyone who doesn’t withdraw by the deadline) is on the hook for full tuition.

And schools DO hold you to it.

That is soon compared to independent schools, which is June 1. I wonder is the waitlist moves for St. John’s next week.

I assumed pp meant Friday May 30th vs Saturday May 31, but if they meant this Friday April 11, that is extremely early.

“DC Catholics” cannot all be lumped together. Some are independent schools that happen to be Catholic (Prep, Stone Ridge, etc) and some are Archdiocesan (Carroll, maybe St John’s). The withdrawal date would be likely be different at every school.

SJC enrollment deadline is April 11th, but the cancellation date is June 30th.

Thanks. I thought the deposit was effectively the enrollment agreement.
