Why does Congress even exist?

Anonymous
Trump is calling 100% of the shots he is signing executive orders every day that apparently have the effect of law. He's not questioned. He's not thwarted. Every news story is just about Trump and his actions. I know Congress has always had a bad reputation as "do nothing" but this has become absolutely ludicrous. Are they doing effing anything? I mean, I guess we are a monarchy after all. everything becomes new again I guess.

Congress is supposed to be the most important powerful branch of our government. They're the very first article.

Our current executive has decided to act unlawfully and unconstitutionally, ignoring congressional statutes and separation of powers. The courts are trying to rein him in, to varying success. While Congress ignores everything, off in their own world. Maddening.

Purpose - To write laws.

But these congressmen are all talk, no action.

They could do a lot if they wanted to.

Congress hasn't done it's job for decades. It outsources all its "writing" to unelected bureaucrats in federal agencies that churn out thousand page bills that no one reads, and then they vote on it.

Modern day Rome.

If Hakeem Jeffries was speaker instead of Mike Johnson, it would be a very different story.

Were you complaining when Obama said if Congress doesn't do what he wants, 'I have my pen and my phone'?
Or when Biden decided he would ignore laws and not enforce them or created new classes of work visas?

When did Obama or Biden ever do what Trump is doing, an to this extent? I’ll wait.

Hey now, we'll have none of that here.

Stick to the pre-approved narrative, or there will be severe consequences. You have been warned.

You are very stupid

The Constitution above all

Why do you think Trump didn't put his hand on the Bible and promise to uphold the Constitution. Because in his pea brain, he knew he wouldn't and even he like to hedge his bets on an afterlife, he's so old

They can't keep up with his pen. And they won't.

Part of the problem is that so many districts have been gerrymandered to the point that they're represented by people like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Gym Jordan. If there were more districts where the focus wasn't only on winning the primary, we'd see more members willing to stand up to Trump. And the sad thing is that if Democrats take back the House it will be at the expense of the few moderate Republicans remaining.

They don't have the effect of law, which is why so many of them are being successfully challenged in court. The GOP has totally abdicated its responibility in governing and pretty much has for two decades.

DP. If you were bothered by Obama and Biden executive orders, you should be bothered by Trump‘s as well. Below are the numbers of EO’s signed by each president.

- **Obama:** 276 total (147 in first term, 129 in second term)
- **Biden:** 162 total (single term)
- **Trump:** 329 total so far (220 in first term, 109 in second term as of April 05, 2025)
Source: grok

One key difference this time is that, under the Trump administration, his executive orders have more power because his administration is ignoring the courts and Congress is not opposing his EO’s. Obama and Biden were sued in the courts numerous times and when they lost, they abided by the decision. This president doesn’t care about the courts or Congress. He feels the executive branch is the most important.

The biggest difference is that Obama and Biden actually expected Congress to do its job. Trump is expecting them to do nothing and essentially grant him its power. GOP states (and even some Dem ones) should be calling on their Governors and State Election Commission to hold a special election. They should actively be working to recall their congress people because it’s been apparent for awhile that many of them are doing nothing!
