Nate Silver is worried that "contrarian centrist types" like himself are being too complacent

No sh&t Sherlock

The base case remains that the American system is bowed but not broken. Particularly the elections component of the system. But I’ve increasingly found myself thinking that contrarian centrist types, a group of which I suppose I’m a card-carrying member, are too complacent about this, too insistent on mean-reversion and related heuristics when things clearly aren’t going well.

"Things clearly aren't going well."

I'd say that applies to almost every Republican in Congress right now. They are saying that these tariffs might not be a good idea but they just need to trust in Trump...

No, you fools. Listen to your gut. You need to stand up and put a stop to the badness.

NATE.
NATE.
NATE.
A lot of people have been trying to tell you.

Sigh, but also more of this. Say your own quiet shit out loud. Now is the time.

What does this even mean?

It means--"I've been saying that this is just a normal political swing to the right, and that it will swing back, as political cycles do. Except that this doesn't look like a normal swing, so maybe I'm wrong and soon we'll all be saying Heil Trump."

Everyone who isn't a MAGA is being too complacent. When a candidate says they intend to be a dictator after having orchestrated a coup attempt, at some point, people need to believe him.

Great so when we're protesting and yelling about how bad this is and trying to get someone else elected, and promising that this idiot is going to ruin this country and everything we love here, we're hysterical little pink hats - and now we're complacent fat cats who are just too comfortable to see how bad things are. Love it.

I got shut down at work a lot. One lady was down right nuts about social issues.

I found small ways not to comply. I would just put “she” by my name as a protest. I also stopped adding that to my signature altogether after year four.

I’ll read nate silver. Haven’t in years -
I consider myself pretty darn liberal but I disagreed with plenty over in the last five years. Mostly on OTT social issue and OTT police rhetoric (I like to say “Um, rapists don’t walk themselves to the jail.) I’m actually a bit p#%d now and I feel sickly validated. I want change

+1. Yet It’s hard offended some friends. But I still do it. the more people write the better

sadly a lot of people follow or need it laid out for them first

Democrats became the crazy people. Their headline issues looked crazy.

US journalists need to find their standards again No More anonymous quotes. That is bad for everyone Plenty of times the statements are innocuous and us citizens (for instance fed workers). So basically they are hiding from their own paranoia. Stop quoting anonymous people or don’t run the story at all

Here are some dem reform ideas off the bat

-start with the journalist reset (that is super easy), assemble a commission on who knew what about Biden and when, then roll some heads based on the findings;
re-establish relations with the enforcement branch of us law (ie police and badge wearers). That takes words then money.

Acknowledge the gains made in immigration control -/and vow to examine and rebuild a better system, where the ideals and spirit of America can still thrive even under current realities.

finally, keep leading even after you lose. Don’t hide like the last person. They are the definition of non leaders. I am ashamed of them all; but that veep- she probably was a reluctant leader anyway

In other words, the Dems were right.

If the Dems were right then I am living in a Sartre play.

Please make it stop. I am also adding to my list: No Californians as leaders for a long time. They are mostly crazy. I am not the only one who feels this way.
